Well.... The time has come to rebuild the water pump I think.... Hearing bearing growls from that vicinity. Have looked hi and low for a water pump with my casting number of 37712280 by Qualcast with no luck. Found a rebuild kit out of the UK using that number for a 60/61 Clark Forklift with a 4-203 but.... it's quite spendy and for some reason I trust US shippers more than out of country. Is it just me? So I quizzed the company I just bought a glow plug from to hopefully fix my cold start problem and be able to leave my torch at home, and they came up with a rebuild kit for a Massey Ferguson tractor that appears to have the parts I need in it. Kind of crossing my fingers at this point that the impeller, shaft, bearings and seals are correct for the water pump housing I have. If it turns out to work I'll post up the part number and supplier here and in the diesel tracking thread for anyone needing a future reference.

I also deleted the old cartridge oil filter with the last oil change and got a new filter head that uses a common Chrysler spin on filter. Easier, cleaner oil changes, and better filtration now.

Thank you, this is great news. I have been looking for a water pump for a few years. Please post what you learn, the rebuild option is a great fix. I need a radiator. Do you know where I can find a radiator that will fit my 1967 that is not Omix Ada?

Well... This is a little embarrassing but I started disassembling things and started with the belt. Once I got the belt off, it was clear that the generator and not the water pump was my noise culprit. It should take a standard 67 radiator, but I don't know of any new replacements that aren't Omix.

The water pump housing on mine is a Qualcast #37712280. There is a company in England that sells a kit for this housing Called Forge Services Limited. http://www.forge-services.co.uk/cgi...ft_1960_61_-_Perkins_4-203_Diesel.html#a64413

I ordered a kit from Sheffield Tractor- Olav is the operator there. sheftrac@gmail.com. Unfortunately I have not been able to 100% verify if either kit works, but the kit from Sheffield Tractor was far cheaper to get since it is in the US so that's the one I went with.

Stuffed 33" BFG muds under the 6 this weekend.... And stuffed is not an understatement. They don't rub going straight down the road, but body roll in a corner will make the rear tires touch the lower quarter panel. Going to do some shackles to see if that will help and the desired tire is 33x10.50 on 8" wheels this go around. Won't happen until about September though. If the shackles don't get me enough height, I may have to change springs. The current ones I believe are 2.5". What have other people run in the 3-4" lift height and their opinions of the various kits? I really wouldn't mind a bit more height as the oil pan is close enough to the ground it makes me nervous on some trails.

Rear lower quarter panel is the most normal place to clip for a little rear tire clearance..........a taller shackle may do very little to fix that as for every inch increase your only getting 1/2 of that in return ........ The suspension during compression will still remain constant while further decreasing clearance as the shackle moves when the suspension articulates.......Trim it.
The front may be OK except for the tires may hit the springs inside.......then maybe a small spacer may be needed ( although I hate spacers)

I am aware of all that, but I refuse to cut this Jeep. I've trimmed my flat fender and if this one weren't so rare I'd trim it too.... I'm more hoping that the 8" wheels and narrower tires will tuck things in enough and shackles will give it that little extra push. If not, I'll go a little taller with the springs. I'm ok with a little more height, this thing is long with a horrible breakover, and the oil pan is just barely higher than the front diff....A little more ground to oil pan clearance isn't a bad thing here.. The dana 30 moved the WMS out enough that the current set up doesn't touch the leaves. Time will tell if the KH 8" wheels and 10.50 tires will rub. I've already built the thing probably more than I should have... lol.

I do appreciate the input however... That's where good ideas originate a lot of the time from something I missed or hadn't thought of.

I'M maybe late on this, but you could use a bump stop to make sure tire wont rub the body.

That is something I may look into as well. I do have some bump stop extenders somewhere that came with another jeep lift...lol

33 inch tires just don't fit in a stock sized wheel well...........and Yep mine use to be rare also.........once upon a time :D

Yours was a perfect time capsule Tarry99! Truth be told, I really don't want to cut it myself.... but Lord help me from the wrath of my GF if I were to take the saw to it.....lol

Jeeper , I hear you on cutting your's up a little , that seems to always be a struggle when improving one....just where do you start & stop and keep some or all of that originality? I think Old Jeeps seem to be just fine with a little massaging of there parts!

And your absolutely right mine was a neat time capsule and I had a blast with that old 65 CJ for many years.........and don't think putting it under the knife was not a real hard decision for me either , but I came to the realization that if it was ever going to see it's next journey it would have to be larger inside with more updated components and that is how it became a Six.........
I got plenty of pictures & memories so I'm cool with that......but I really think it's next life & Journey will really suit us both quite nicely............so stay tuned!

I've been glued to your project since day one.... I'll admit I haven't always seen the bigger picture, but I also understand that what you're doing works for you and that your getting it back on the road in a configuration that works for you is the bigger picture. And your fab work is absolutely gorgeous!

I guess with mine I'm drawing the line at cutting.... At least for now... As you well know, plans can and do change over time, but I've been trying to stick to just bolt on items for modifications aside from the frame repair that was a necessary upgrade. Larger diameter tires will help with my ground clearance problem and I'm not opposed to changing springs to get what I need. Honestly with the way this is set up currently, new springs would give me even better oil pan to ground clearance. I think narrowing up the width of the tire and wheel combo will help quite a bit with a number of things including reducing stress on mostly stock steering components. The Kelsey Hayes 8" wheels will make a nice package with 33X10.50-15 tires. I'll make them fit without cutting. I may even swap on the stock rear 10 leaf pack for this upcoming September trip. It's gonna be loaded down with gear and maybe even a roof top tent for a five day, 800-1000 mile trip through Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Gotta be more than prepared!

I definitely will... You'll likely see an article in Four Wheeler or Petersons as well at some point about the trip. It's gonna be a bunch of vintage rigs. Mine, a 60 Napco GMC w/305 V-6, a 63 F250 4wd, Scrambler, first gen Toyota P/U, early bronco, MB, Samurai, etc. The rigs pretty much run the gamut. Lots of dirt roads, camping every night, maybe some easy trails, and a lot of exploring of the countryside.

Well... I just got back from dropping off a set of 4 KH 15x8 wheels at the sand blaster/powdercoating shop for a nice coat of 20% gloss white. Had one odd ball wheel to make the 5th that is welded instead of riveted and used to be chrome but otherwise it's physically the same as the other 4 actual KH wheels. That one will be the spare. It should give it that really old school look that it needs in the wheel/tire dept. Pics when I get the tires in September. =)

Hi there i was just reading this and thought I add something here . I run a m38 tub with 2.5" lift springs with 33x12.5x15 tsl swampers. . 8 " rims 3.75 back spacing . Looks like your tires would clear with out trimming if your move the rear front spring hanger forward about 3/8 to 1/2" . I did that with mine and and at full stuff it clears about 1/8" in the wheel well front and back .
By moving it forward you are copenasating for the tire moving backwards.

Really curious to see how you get the 33s settled in, I'm contemplating them for my '68.
