1962 cj5 vin number ??

    Definitely. It is pretty much in the center, I was thinking it was a bit offset.

    That indentation was for a receptacle for attaching jumper cables between vehicles. The battery box was obviously removed too, that's why the lid is screwed down. Tailgate was most likely added, though there were some that came with them.

    Military is 24 volt with 2 smaller sized batteries. Regular battery wouldn't fit through that lid opening. Wouldn't really be worth the effort.
    Unless of course you wanted more amperage capacity and hooked them up in parallel and got the 2 smaller batteries that would fit. I don't know what you could get as far as capacity, or exactly what if anything would have to be done to the charging system so it would take care of both batteries.

    All of us are glad to help one another. I appreciate the compliment but I'm no genius on these things. Everything I told you is what I've learned from guys on here. The internet is great when used for this kind of environment and amongst a bunch of good people. :)

    Shaun, It looks like you have a good idea what your Jeep is. Pretty much is still A1 with a few civvy things like the tailgate, dash, and V6. I looked at the tailgate opening and it looks cut-in as opposed to factory. The A1 had a solid rear panel. The V6 was likely dropped in at a much later date. Your windshield frame is also A1, as well as the grill.
    All you really need to do is find an unstamped data plate and stamp your title numbers , though we haven't nailed down the exact year, though I think your title (based on the serial number) is for a '63.

    CJ5 serial number 139868 is November 1961 build which would be 1962 model year. I assume this is the number from your title vs what is stamped on the data plates?

    so would the MD 72760 on my data plate be gen. II M38-a1, seems my frame is similar to the M38-a1 with the gun deck and some numbers i seen, still cleaning it off.

    Mark O is the one who got me straight.. 1378300 Oct of 62 57548-137830 title numered as a 1962 it is stamped on the frame i havent looked for any mb traits .

    I stand corrected by Zoomer on the date of manufacture regarding your title number. He has access to the month by month production data and is the best source.
    Your title, based on the serial number, should be for a 1962 CJ5. I have no idea how the 1966 model year ended up on your title when it should be '62. The dateplate serial number/vin should exactly match your title. That MD # I am sure is the true identity of your Jeep, so your title should read Jeep M38A-1 based on that MD vin number. Otherwise, can your state "correct" the year on your title to show a 1962 model year based on the 139xxx number? You would need a dataplate/vin on the firewall showing the correct number on your title.
