Need To Clean Carbon Off Valves

So while I was replacing my intake manifold I noticed (by looking down the intake ports) that the valves were caked with carbon.

What is a good method to try and clean it off without having to remove them? I believe that a chemical cleaning is all I can do now...so maybe Seafoam?

Now that I'm going fuel injection I hope that the carbon buildup is a little slower, I'm sure the carb was running rich.

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

I have heard more than once that pouring ATF down the carb while running will remove carbon buildup. I have done this myself on older pore running engines with good results in the rough to smoother running area.

i used to de carbon the caddy every two months or so with a cup o water...rev that thing up and dump the water down the carb, not enough to kill it just make it sputter some presto clean combustion chambers and silly cheap.

forget the water. feed that 360 a budweiser or two. helps to have a friend, either to pour, or run the throttle. do it outdoors, rather than in a garage, and don't wear white clothes.

get a small spray bottle fill it with clean water and as you run the engine at about 2000 rpm spray it into the open throat of the crab at a rate that will not stall the engine. The water turns to steam as it enters the combustion chamber and has excellent cleaning properties. Back in the day a few friend used water injection on their high compression engines to help with pre detonation and it had the added benifit of keeping their valve tops and the stems on the exhaust valves nice and clean.
