    No.
Ringing him again today to see when he can get here.

There's a classic Jeep get together next month and I want it to be on the road by then.:waiting:

Re booked him to maybe come on Wednesday, but he will still have to let me know if that will happen.

Lucky I'm not hanging by me goolies waiting for him.

So about all I could do is bolt on the painted tool holders and footman loops and strap the tools in place.

The only things left to do are the boots over the gear sticks which means a bit of sewing effort then the centre console and the under dash install of the radio and UHF but I can do those after the final engineering inspection is complete.
Will get a bikini top done up for it as well later on.

I have around 4 weeks until the Jeep, "Classic not plastic" get together here and that is the deadline I have set myself, and him.

I told him on the phone that I wanted it finalised and the paperwork done within the next week or so, then I can get the registration sorted out to attend the event.

Jeep is looking very road worthy. I’m sure it will pass with flying colors.

Not quite as easy as that Oldriginal86. :(

He has picked up a few things but they are relatively easy to put right, just a little bit annoying to have to do them.
He is required to check everything off with reference to a list of rules called "Australian Design Regulations" ADR's.

Some of them are reasonable requirements but some are just bureaucratic insanity gone wild.

    I need to;
Extend the front flares so they cover the limit of the tyres.
One side rubber is just underneath the limit of the flare but the opposite side has the tyre sitting out a little further.

    This one annoys me.
Extend the width of the bull bar by about 2 inches either side so it is in line with the front tyre centre lines.

There is a big list of do's and don't s relating to bull bar design here.
Continual revision of the laws relating to bull bars has happened due to their use on vehicles that never leave cities, in an effort to make them more pedestrian friendly.
I'm not sure how 2 inches extra width would help a pedestrian but.... anyway.

Add 2 red reflectors to the rear somewhere.
So it is more visible at night if parked on a street with lights off.

Sort out the rear license plate mount.

Get a skid plate type of brake test done because I changed the front brakes to discs.

Send him photos of the changes, while he writes up the certificates.
No need for him to see it in person again.

Thought about that, but the only other rims I have are wider again and the rubber is crappy.

Cheaper to throw some wider flare strips under the wheel arch.

It may get changed back to original after the rego process is over. :sneak:

    Same with the bull bar.

Had a brain wave while laying in bed last night.

Just slipped on some edge strip rubber seal to the existing plastic flare.:bananatool:

    Problem solved.

Stuck on some reflectors at the rear.
So the only thing on his list now is the bull bar mod and the license plate mount.

Got the boots made for the gear sticks and the hand brake.
Bit rough with the stitching which is thankfully hidden anyway, but it looks OK from a distance.

Welded and painted the roll bar and installing the seat belts.

Well, it's an outside beastie. :D:ausflag:

Only put it into the shed cause I have a large steelwork job on the go outside.
Not enough room in there to do major work and the light is better outside under the awning.

Did get the license plate bracket attached to the jerry can holder today.
Not sure I like it there, but will move it after the bureaucrats finish looking at it all and it's on the road.

Yep, 3 weeks to go so I hope he doesn't delay with his paperwork.

I need to get the bull bar extended and get a platetronic brake test done for him but that's all that's left to do.

Should be able to get the brake test done early next week.

Has cost $880 bucks for the engineering certs which is painful but unavoidable.

Thats a lot of money to spend for a vehicle you have made much more safe and reliable than from the factory

    They sure do.

Annoying, but to get it on the road legally there is no other option.

Still a lot of expense to come.

    Weighbridge ticket $30
    Brake test $???
    Registration inspection around $40
Get third party injury insurance around $700 (yearly cost)
The actual rego cost $300 (yearly cost)
Pay for the number plate $40

Then the insurance on the vehicle itself $??

Plus, our fuel costs are some of the highest in the world.

Diesel is running around $1.50 a litre, so about $5.70 AUD per US gallon, = ($4.25 USD per Gallon)
and the politicians here tell us we live in the "lucky country", yeah right.

Total $ to get this on the road with all the costs will be close to $8000 AUD not including any of my labour cost.

The cost of rego and the fact that I don't drive the cj5 much is why I put it on historic registration. It's only done about 6500 miles in the 7 or so years since I rebuilt it. The workshop I used to work at in Gateshead has a platetronic and it has a weighbridge built in so you might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone there.

Got a place at East Maitland that has one, so all good thanks Geoff.
Nearest public weighbridge is at the dump over that way as well.

I have thought about the club rego but I like to use them every day if possible and didn't want to have any extra hoops to jump through.

I'm going to ask at the risk of embarrassment, what the heck is a "rego"? Is that a registration?
