Thanks Ron. No O-Reilly's in this neck of the woods. Went to RockAuto and ordered parts and extras for a Prestolite dist. on a 1970 cj5, 225.

So, just wondering......since someone else did the last tune up on this engine (not long ago), and it stopped running since then.......is it possible to install parts (cap, rotor, points, cond.) for a Delco distributor into a Prestolite, or vice-versa?

I did not look REAL close at the distributor. I just looked for the cap with the dwell window and dwell adjustable points set under it, neither of which was present. This tells me Prestolite.

But, if he didn't know any better and just ordered parts, maybe he got the wrong stuff????? Would it all fit????

That's good news. Thanks you for that.

So, for those that follow, the parts I ordered tonight were listed on RockAuto for a 1970 cj5, 225 V6, with Prestolite distributor.

    Points:

    Standard Motor Products, PN AL4652P

Pertronix did not have a kit last year for odfire w/ prestolite. Maybe they do now?
fwiw, I bought tune up parts last year from o'reilly and found the distributor cap was slightly different diameter and would not fit correctly, returned and ordered off-line.
The points were not correct either. I was able to modify them by filing the adjustment slot to allow more adjustment to get enough adjustment to set dwell.

Get a rebuilt Delco distributor, then do this.

I purchased points/cond/cap/rotor at Oreillys for my prestolite dist . Parts fit with no problem. Still not happy with point setup so removed prestolite with coil and spares and put in safe place as this is what the jeep was born with. Installed the Delco dist. with Pertronix kit and pertronix epoxy 3 ohm coil with no ballast resistor. Set timming .Done
