    Hello from the California Desert.

I recently aquired this vehicle. It sat in a yard for over ten years so I've gone through all the usual stuff to revive it. I've done stock restorations on Jeeps but never deviated from original. This thing is highly modified and was hoping the experts here could look at it and see if they think these are sound modifications.

After flushing the fluids and prepping it to start I got it running and it built oil pressure quick. It had a fuel problem so I had to take the carb apart today and clean it. Now it runs decent but occasionally backfires if you rev it cold. I need to bleed the brakes and get a couple tires and it will be ready to test drive.

It has tons of mods and I don't know what some of them exactly are. Looks like a TH350, Stock 225, Winch, Carter carb, Air compressor, two tanks, air suspension, Dana 30 front axle?, Cadallac steering column, headers, electric fuel pump and mechanical, fuel tank switch valve, power steering, overdrive.

My main question is the suspension but any other comments are welcome. I want to keep it as it and as safe as possible. It's SOA with axles much wider than my M38A1 has. The axles are 56 or so inches wide and the steering linkage is totally different than my A1. I guess I need to get it on the trail and see if it's stable but would like to get it as safe a possible before then.

    Thanks!

Do I spy the word rancho on the front leaf? and 44061 on the other?

I know many people run them, I feel they are fairly stiff. Prefer to use multi leaf packs from others (like national spring) for off road.
I think you'll find it stable and hard riding.
Definitely get new tires and see if the air shocks hold air.

Neat score. I'd run it as-is save for fixing/replacing the top.

Maybe you could do SUA (spring under axle) and cure any misgivings you have about the height/stability?

Check your transfer case for lube, it's too dry on the outside. Should be nice and greasy.

Bit of an amazing jeep right there. Needs some TLC, but its really nice. Automatic with overdrive too. Welder? OBA?

All I can see that I would change is HEI, Power disk brakes and a clean up of the wiring and plumbing. Trying to figure out what all the switches are will be interesting...

Awesome jeep! Might be perfect as is. Its really making me drool.

That thing is set up with all the goodies of a solid dependable back country rig. Nice JEEP.

I run the rancho springs and like them. Maybe not what the heavy rock crawler guys would use but, there's not a lot of that type of terrain here so, the ranchos are fine by me. Way better than the lift that was on it when I bought it.

I wouldn't change anything for now. Drive it a while and see what YOU like or dislike. Make changes from there. Congrats.

I'll echo everyone else. Great score, lots of good stuff there, looks well executed. Only thing I have to say is the Carter carb is known to be not good offroad.

Yes, lots of good stuff there. What do you want the Jeep to be like when you finish? For me, the spring-over would be worrisome. I suspect it's not that highway stable given how much lift it has. If you are going to trailer or flat-tow it to the trail, or drive it locally, it may be fine the way it is.

    I’d say that’s a score.
The SPOA does not bother me. I’d be cautious and just see how it drives. Easy enough to switch it back to SPUA...a little work but no big deal.

I see a Dana 30, Warn 8274, York air and lots of other custom stuff.

Looks like it might be a full float rear, hard to tell in the pic.

I’d be excited to find out what’s in the diff’s. I bet it has lockers in it.

Like others have mentioned, change all the oils/fluids, sort out all the plumbing and wires etc.

    Rad!

Just looking at the shots of the body from underneath, your way ahead of most of us. No rust in the floors and hat channels. Like everyone else has said before, check it over well, change fluids and drive it for a bit and change what you don’t like.

Looks like air lockers front and rear. Front diff has a blue hose coming out and I see the same type of blue hose running behind the air tank to the rear. Rear axle looks like a flanged rear, based on the brake mounting flange. I would get a plate to protect the flex plate and torque converter. Make sure the rubber fuel lines don't cross anything hot and figure out what the reasons for the carb bailing wire is. Hei and carb would be the top of my changes but strictly on the want list.
Check the air tank for internal rust. It would be best to replace if condition is unknown being 15years old if setting with water in it.

That's a unbelievable deal. I need friends like yours! You may be stuck with the height and the SO if you want to keep the TH350. That's a pretty long combo that doesn't fit that easily into an 80.5' wheelbase.
