Dana 27 Tie Rod Flip

    you are correct, steering stabilizers should be band-aids, custom early CJ5 front ends are a different animal and I've always ran a stabilizer on my jeep.

    personal preference, not a required upgrade.

    Same Shocks, I didn't change them, ended up with clearance with the offset tie rod setup, still close and might still move the upper mounts before my next slick rock trip.

    Did you receive your taps back ok?

    Working on flipping my tie rods now and am wondering where I can purchase the passenger tie rod end bent the other way. Mine looks like attached currently.

    Do you have any trouble on or offroad having the shackles angled in like that? I was under the impression that the correct length leaf would have the leaf side of the shackle mount more forward than the frame side. On my Jeep it looks like if I install the shackles (i have same ones as you) that I'll have a similar angle - want to make sure that everything will work out ok.

    James, I have a Dana 25 and I'm doing the same single tie rod link conversion. Can you give me the lengths of both tubes, please? Thanks!

    Dang, I don't think I can help. Mine are on a wide track D30 so I don't know the lengths. It's really easy to figure out once you have your tie-rod ends and tubing in hand.

    Thanks anyways! I was just being me, all over! I don't have the tie rod ends yet (not lack of funds, of course!) so I was trying to get the dom tubes cut to length and threaded ahead of time. What I have done so far is to thread the long one on both ends, leaving it about 1 in longer (that dimension I got from Donny) and I will cut and extend the threads as required. The short one I will probably thread only one side and when I have a definitive size, thread the other side.

    Keep in mind the dimension I gave you is intended to be used with the tie rod end pictured in post #65. If you are going with a different configuration, you may end up short on that expensive DOM.

    Thanks again! That is exactly what I intend to do for now. I do not have a double hole knuckle, so I will be using that TRE with the hole for the Pittman tube. If I find any trouble with steering, then I will contemplate an upgrade to a double hole one. Anyways, what I got is two 36" sections of DOM, so not a lot of choices on that section!:bananatool:

    BTW, I found there is a 4 wheel parts store locally here in Miami that offers a decent supply of vintage CJ parts. Prices are somewhat similar to the other sites as far as I have seen, but you save on shipping when you select "pick up in store". I bought some suspension parts for my CJ5 and saved around 16 bucks on shipping, instead paid a couple of dollars in taxes!:clap:

    I didn't know there was a 4WD parts in Miami. Looks like its on the Palmetto a couple exits west of Golden Glades? I have gone to the 4WD parts up in West Palm when up at my Mom's.

    Yes sr. That is the one. The do not have anything for our jeeps in store, but they do online and as I said before, you can order and pick up there.

    I have a 4WD Parts warehouse very close. I picked something up that I ordered online and had to answer their "vehicle profile" questions to be in their system.

    Are my tie rods too close together? Doesn't seem to be hitting when I turn wheels lock to lock. Pic below is straight forward.

    I had to dig through your build thread to find a pic of your shackle orientation; I couldn't remember. You're running a shackle reversal, right? With a shackle reversal, you *should* be a little safer, since the axle will tend to swing rearward under compression. If you have a few hundred pounds of cement and/or some heavy inlaws you could have sit on the front bumper, you might want to test it out. Compress the springs as far as you can to imitate a hard impact and watch the tie rod/pitman arm clearance. If there's interference, you might want to change something. :ninja:

    Thanks. I have both concrete and heavy in-laws. The concrete might be a little less annoyed.

    I showed the pictures to the company that made my frame and since the steering box mount is integrated into the frame, they are willing to make a bracket that pushes the steering box forward about 1.5" which should resolve this issue.
