It's been a while since I've posted any updates on my project. Recently I decided to go down the fuel injection rabbit hole. I read everything I could find here and decided to take the plunge with megasquirt. I decided to get the megasquirt II and build it. For my injection I went with a motorcraft CFI from a grand marque V6, since it too was a 3.8L. I already changed over to a electric fuel pump, so that was a part of the puzzle I already had complete. Overall it was a pretty easy deal. The learning curve was not as bad as I expected, but it did take a fair amount of research. I've put a couple hundred miles on it now and I'm really pleased with the upgrade. Now that I'm confident everything is working, I just need to sanitize the wiring and clean everything up. I'll post up some pictures shortly.

Do you know what the VIN number is on that pretty little CJ5?

This is the Holley 8007 that I'm replacing.

On the left is the Ford CFI that replaced the carb. The CFI was approx 3# lighter than the carb

Here is a closer look at the CFI. This is actually the spare I bought. The two only cost me $50 together.

Megasquirt relay board mounted on the firewall. I'm going to design a cover for this and rapid prototype it. I don't like seeing it exposed. The Computer is mounted under the dash along with the LC2 wide band controller.

Here is the CFI installed an running. I decided to not use the IAC since it was of very little benefit to me. Another thing that was nice about the CFI was that it used a standard 2 barrel carb mounting configuration. So all I had to do to adapt it was buy a two to four adapter.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but lets try it this way.

Well, I have some bad news with my Jeep. I'm pretty embarrassed, but here it goes. I was running to work with it and rolled it after a big buck got wrapped up in my front wheel. I had a case of aviation oil on the floor that broke some ribs on its way out. Other than that, besides some road rash on my hand and head, I walked away unscathed. Glad I was alone and it could have been way worse. I parked it in the back of my hanger to give myself some time to heal and think about what to do next. I just finally had it the way I wanted, so starting over is really tough. Anyway, I decided I'm fixing it and hopefully will do a few upgrades along the way. This post marks the beginning of the journey.

Ugh, that's awful. Thank goodness you're OK. Broken ribs are no fun at all.

Glad you're fixing the Jeep. (pictures are not working for me BTW).

Thanks for the heads up on the photos. Hopefully this works. I thought for sure I was going to get it really bad when it was rolling. The old Jeep took good care of me, and now its time to repay the favor.

    The goal:

If I follow one of the picture links, I get:

I think you just need to make your album publicly readable or at least these pictures in particular.

Wow, I'm glad you weren't hurt badly. The jeep can be fixed, and like you said, better than before.

That is such a beautiful Jeep. It absolutely deserves to be resurrected.

    Again, glad your OK.
I want to ask about the roll bar. I have a very similar bar on my 5 I think. Is it a stock roll bar - just bolted to the top of fender wells w/ 6 big bolts? Did the jeep roll to the right first ? Then 270* over the top the the driver side? How fast? Did it seem very violent (I cant imagine it wouldn't) or a slow rollover?

That sucks but glad you walked away. It's only metal and sweat hours. Looks like most hard parts survived pretty well and Jeeps morph from one to another easily enough. That'll buff out
