I shy away from any that don't have them for my jeep and truck, but then again you guys mentioned that most batteries nowadays don't last more than 5 years, most all of my batteries have lasted 8-12 years. Even my motorcycle batteries have caps, i just replaced it 2 months ago and it was new in 2008, my riding lawnmower battery is more than 10 years old now.

So, I believe I need the group 24 configured battery... it’s 10” wide “, which will physically fit the tray and the top holder, the posts are on the fender side of the battery top, and the positive terminal is on the firewall end of the battery...that’s my story and I’m sticking with it, at least for the moment, ha, man I have a headache!

Are you still pondering which battery to buy? I guess you answered my question.

Group 24 is certainly the correct size. :)

Yep, do it that way and it will fit good and the terminals will be easily accessible.

If you are thinking of getting the 24F make sure you're satisfied with the position of the terminals. I like them on the fender side of the battery.

Right...the 24F won’t work with the original top holder because I need the terminals on the fender side. You are correct!

Moving on to the motorcycle carrier in my next thread, ha.

For confirmation the FSM schematic shows the terminals on the fender side.

    Now that sounds interesting. :)

Basically an AC ohmeter, or since they actually measure "conductance" a "mho" meter.

To each his own but a hydrometer really only tells you the specific gravity of the electrolyte, it's possible to have a good electrolyte SG (or state of charge) but the battery is shot. Either the unit's I mentioned or a measured load test will indicate what the battery's true capabilities are.

Keep in mind that I need the positive terminal on the firewall side and the terminals on the fender side, so the 24 battery turned 180 degrees in the tray, I think, right?

Be interesting to estimate the cost of electricity for the maintainer, over 19 years, compared to a new battery.

I have about five, all in 6-volt vehicles.

And the 12-volt "maintainance-free" unitary caps will pry off.
