I agree. 33s are the sweet spot* for these old guys IMO.

*with power steering

 

I would put those tires on your slotted mags, and run it!

The 33's fit your jeep good but those wheels just dont look right. Have you concidered running 33" all terrains on the slots and 33" with a more aggressive tread on the steel wheels. Just make sure they clear the body when its flexed out

 

I am leaning toward sticking the 33x10.5 on either my 7" steel wheels or 8" chrome wheels. I just need to see what the offsets look like. Then I could hopefully talk someone into buying these wheels from me.

 

Starting to make my off season repairs list.
First up will be a new drag link. Good thing I bought the taps to make these things at home! With all the suspension and steering upgrades over the years I'm getting good at whipping these things out.
At least this is the first time that I have had to make a new drag link due to damage........ probably won't be the last either...
This happened right at the bottom of big sluice on the Rubicon trip this past summer. The jeep still drives fine but the steering wheel is a little off center.....





One plus for me .... my local steel supplier has tons of rem's in the exact tubing needed!

 

Finally got around to making a new tie rod. Once you tap these in a lathe, you will wonder how you ever did them by hand.

When it comes to rattle can paint this is the best stuff hands down. Essentially Rustoleum oil based enamel in a spray can. Takes a bit to dry, but one light coat easily covers.



Now I just have to make myself install it......

 

Nothing to do yesterday with the power out.... Installed the new tie rod.
A long time ago I picked up some fancy prothane grease boots. Very nice fit, we will see how long they last...

 

I ordered Brennan's MC2100 fuel bowl kit. I currently am happy with my carb off road but he says this will make me like it more.... Now I'm playing the waiting game!

The best thing I ever did on the 2100 on my truck was to connect those two vents with a piece of copper tubing (soldered in, like an upside down U) and drill a few holes in the top center. I swear that thing would purr at any angle.

Starting to work off my Rubicon trip check list. Last year I actually got stuck one time on my spare tire carrier latch.
Way back in this thread you can see how pretty this little toggle clamp was when I first built the spare tire carrier. At that time it never crossed my mind how vulnerable of a location I put it in. Overall it took the abuse well and was still functioning properly but needed to find a new home.









After a half hour of straightening the clamp.... I started on a new mounting location. This is what I came up with.
Ideas are still forming in my head for a skid plate that would bolt on via the old mounting holes.......

 

That's awesome . I wish I were working on little details like this, feel like I'm still tackling the basics .

 

I did not follow up with my results from Brennan's MC2100 fuel bowl kit installation.
Pics show the straight forward install. Brennan provides gaskets for both the 2100 and 2150. The vent plugs were not even close to tight enough to stay in place so I used a little JB weld to hold them in.
On cold startup I noticed that the fast idle was not activating. Randomly..... I plugged the single bowl vent with my finger and the idle picked up to normal for cold start. Initial test drive felt like the jeep was starving for fuel so I picked up a fuel filter on the way home. Changing the fuel filter made no improvement.
I removed the carb top cover and found that the replacement gasket was plugging the choke pull off port. I contacted Brennan and he has shipped me a corrected gasket. In the mean time I reinstalled the factory gasket and have been driving on for the last couple weeks. The Factory gasket corrected my cold startup high idle issues.... but it still feels like there is some fuel starvation. This afternoon I will get the new gasket installed.








I went ahead and double checked the float level while I had the carb apart. Right on point as it's always been.

 

I'm running the Offy dual port 360 manifold. 4bbl square bore with a phenolic adapter to the MC2100. The MC2100 uses the same pattern as a Holley 2bbl. Phenolic adapter really helps with the heat soak on 110 degree days.
I like the idea of TBI.... but the need for a fuel return to the tank is a problem for me. With dual tanks I would have to have a separate valve to control the fuel return.
