I think it's about time to track and document the early Renegades. A place to post vin's and photos. Possibly put to rest the theory of batch production, dealer built vs assembly line. A place to verify how many are out there. I'll start with the two I have. I think they are the closest serial number Renegades and in a rare color for them to boot. 362017 and 362023, both Prairie gold in color.

I just bought a renegade 1 .purple color. has the spare rack, extra 2 gauges ,v6 with dry air cleaner. Has the 79005 KH wheel for the spare. Sad thing is I had 3 renegade 1 rims and gave them away . Never thought I would find another one let alone a renegade 1. I can post the ser # and pics.

    I have a 1971 Renegade 1 (September 1970 build). VIN is 8305037 367694.

I purchased it from the estate of the original owner, from his nephew. The nephew remembers the Jeep as a kid and sent me a cool pic of him and some friends climbing on it and "driving" it from mid to late 70's. This Jeep has the original orange paint. There is no rust except a little surface rust in foot wells and on the passenger front fender. Looking at the Jeep you can see it had a hard top on for a lot of its life. The original owner lived in S.F. Bay Area so I am sure it has been a California Jeep all along. The Jeep came with 4 snow chains, a sack full of buckles and chains (to use with the home built winch), a box of spare parts including a 4 barrel carb and manifold. I am running the Rochester 2 bbl. that was on it when I bought the Jeep.

The nephew was selling a nice, pretty rust free (no rust through any ware) ‘Jeep’ trailer but I had no place to hide it if I bought it. The trailer was a 1965 M416-B1 trailer by Stevens Mfg. Co. (I took some pictures so I would remember).

I believe the passenger and rear seats have the original covers (pinstriped) the driver’s seat was recovered by P.O. (solid black). The Jeep came with two fuel tanks, front lock-out hubs (Free Lock, Auto-Lock), an onboard battery charger and an O.D. It came with white wagon wheels and tires that I didn't trust, now it is wearing later Renegade Mags (that I got from Mcruff) and new Hankook DynaPro MT tires. Mechanically the power train was/is great, motor starts right up. All the gears in trans., transfer case and axles work as should.

The Jeep has less than 50,000 miles now and still has the '999' trim tag on the firewall. It has aftermarket springs that give it about 2” of lift (???). I have read (on this site) that there should be a stamped letter 'R' on the inside of the driver's side of the tub, near the heater motor. Mine has a Letter 'N' stamped there, it is clearly an 'N' not a smeared or smudged 'R'.

I will try to post pictures tonight.
