When I was in high school, I went over to my brothers house to put my new front bumper on my Lowered 55 Chevy. I laid it all out in the alley behind his house, put my new bumper in front of my car, and went to get tools and the bumper bolts. While in the garage a car came, I jumped in my Chevy to move it, you guest it, I ran right over my new bumper, with a Lowered car, not only screwed the bumper up, but because it was so low, it also took out the freshly painted gravel shield behind the bumper. I wanted to shoot my self, it broke my hart, the new bumper was the last thing to finish my 55 Chevy, and I destroyed it. I wanted to Cry, but 18 year olds don't Cry..... Good Luck

While in the army many years ago, I traded a newish honda motorcycle for a clapped out Fiat convertible. After pulling the fuel tank, cleaning the gunk out of it, rebuilding the fuel system, and having the injectors cleaned, it fired right up. I took it around the barracks parking lot for a victory lap and went a little fast over one of the speed humps. It came down on it's nose with an ugly scraping noise. When I parked, it started to steam. I had hit the radiator when I came down and put a hole in the bottom of it. Fiat parts were not easy to find in Texas before the internet. Luckily the hobby shop had a radiator tank and a guy that knew how to repair them. The car was a rust bucket, but I still miss it and keep weighing getting another one.

Here's a collection of similar stories I found on Willystech.

Watched my 68 tempest with a gto nose and hideaway lights bumper roll outta the gas station down the hill into the only tree in the parking lot...destroyed the nose the ram air hood and the radiator. Still have the heads off that 400.

Should have seen the look on my 9year old son's face when all went black!

My dad told me a story from the 60s. He was helping a buddy remove a steering wheel from a car. They did not have a puller. Buddy puts both feet on the dash and pulls the wheel as hard as he can. Wheel slips off, smacks buddy in the nose and knocks him out cold. My dad said he was laughing so hard it was a minute before he could help him.

I was changing the rear diff on my CJ6. I went out, got the jack stands, jack and tools. Jacked the back of the 6 up and wrasseled the diff loose. It was about ready to go and I went to move the jack under the pumpkin to roll it out of there. Then I saw the jack was holding up the frame and the jack stands were standing at attention off to the side. Needless to say - I stopped breathing and my pulse went up a little.

A few years ago I was going up a long straight grade on a two lane hwy. Suddenly I see a F- 250 ford truck approaching from the opposite direction, only problem was they were driving in reverse, straight as an arrow, right in the center of their lane. They were going pretty fast too, maybe 35 mph. My wife said look at those crazy kids, they could wreck doing that. Then they went by, I realized there was no one in that truck  wife said it must be a ''runaway''. Where it came from I have no clue, It went out of sight on down the mountain still in its lane. I could not turn around as we were towing heavy. About an hour later we returned on that same route to find the truck had passed thru a traffic light and had struck another pickup truck. No one was hurt. It had traveled about 300 more yards after we passed it. I would hate to have been the owner of that truck.o_O

When I first got this Jeep, I wanted to put her thru the paces. Drove around town for awhile & then pulled behind the local Corner service station, which was all mud. Perfect spot for 4 WD check, Right ?
Locked in the selectro's & started rolling forward will shifting into 4W Hi . Shifted in great....... pleased so far. Spun up some wet earth & came out on the pavement entrance to the pumps. Thought I'd better shift back out. Couldn't , so i started to get frustrated & hurried . Put it in PARK , wiith people beeping & swearing at me to move. Couldn't. Kept yanking ( & Grinding ) . Put it in Drive. More grinding & embarrasment. Could not get it out of 4W Hi . :banghead: People really gett'n pissed  & time and ( Grinding ) seemed to be lasting FOREVER  Then some fella shows up & say's he'll help me push it out of the way. He suggests I put it in neutral & he'll bump push the back end.
That's when I remembered that this was my first Jeep WITHOUT a 3 speed manual & that's how you shift gears with an AUTO. I hightailed it outta there..... as red faced as I've ever been .

After my 61 + years , I have pulled enough stupid move's , that sometimes I wonder how I'm still here. This is my latest stupid ( & embarrassing ) thing with my jeep though.........Hopefully I've obtained some wisdom & it will be the last , But somehow I doubt it ! :worry:

Ran through a large rain puddle in a '65 Gran Prix and the engine died, I stopped, opened the hood and reached into the engine compartment to check wiring and look for water, wrist watch shorted on the hot terminal of the alternator, instantly turning blue and leaving me with a nice tattoo around my wrist. At 73 years old I sometimes wonder how any young man lives to my age!

Years ago I installed a new headlight on a dual sport Kawasaki KLR. While in the garage trying to get the light adjusted properly I would get on the bike, put up the kickstand, sit on the seat, bounce up and down, put down the kickstand, get off the bike, readjust the light's screws. Get back on the bike, put up the kickstand, bounce around on the seat, put down the kickstand, get off the bike, adjust the light, get on the bike, put up the kickstand, bounce up and down on the seat, get off the bike.... Oops forgot the kickstand and fell right over on my side and the bike landed on me and took the breath right out of me.

My wife could hear the clatter from upstairs and came running down into the garage.

I was rolling my ridiculously heavy 90's era Suzuki DR650 motorcycle out of my garage, I was pulling it backwards by the handlebars while walking backwards. My heel caught something and stopped me from stepping back far enough, other heel caught the same thing and down I went. It's the worst feeling when your heel catches while going backwards and you know there is no recovering. Then came the 650 right down on top of me. My right arm was up by my ear and I couldn't get my elbow to bend the right direction to get my hand back under the bike to lift. My left hand was palm down on the floor and trapped enough by the bike that I couldn't flip it over or pull it out. I couldn't lift the bike with the back of my left hand. I was trapped for a while until my neighbor across the street came out of his house to go to work. I couldn't really see him back there but I heard his car door. I was just yelling hoping it was him. Once he stopped laughing he helped me up .

Had a buddy in high school who had a piece of junk Subaru Forester with a manual trans and a remote start installed by the previous owner. On 3 separate occasions he found it in the neighbor's yard after accidentally starting it in gear. The thing would crank for about 10 seconds before it gave up and would pull right through the parking brake.

Dad fell off the trailer ramps in his little Allmand tractor trying to load it in on the most flat spot we could find (very hilly where we live). Evidently it wasn't flat enough, he broke off 3 of the little nubs on your vertebrae that your muscles connect to and still proceeded to tell me that he was fine and didn't need to go to the hospital. He wouldn't let me help him get in the truck or go up the stairs so I left him out there and 5 minutes later came back to him still standing at the bottom of the stairs. That's when I made him get in the truck and brought him to the hospital down town. He fully recovered, kept trying to work on the house while he was on crutches too until we'd yell at him :D

Put a plastic bag over my air cleaner once to wash the engine bay (covered some other stuff like the distributor and such too) and then forgot to remove it before I started it, crushed my fancy K&N filter all up.

I forgot to latch the hood 2x in about 3 months.:banghead: Hood stayed on and the windshield stayed together but windshield frame was bent pretty bad. Lucky I guess the glass is a little small for the frame and popped out when the frame bent. Remove glass, hammer and paint frame, reinstall glass, wipers and all the standoffs, reinstall frame. 2X !!:steamed:
