I was riding copilot in a race with an F-head when we took a hard landing on the RF tire. Lost oil pressure shortly after. We hopped out to see a dripping mess and no oil left in the engine. The driver trusted me to fix it while he hoofed it back to the campground for oil. I noticed the driveshaft came in contact with the skid plate and peeled it away from the pan, ripping the spot welds free. I took a pry bar and ripped it the rest of the way off, and used the sheet metal screws that were holding the shifter boots on to plug the holes. I was just finishing up when he returned with oil. Finished the last two laps of the race!

Well I'm not happy with the finish but it is close enough I can buff it out later. Last coat of blue is on and first coat of clear is drying with 3 more to go.

Life sucks when your a perfectionist.

But I can't complain too much. This clear coat is older that the blue paint. Purchased in 1988 to paint my 76 Wagoneer. My wife wanted maroon, so painted a base of charcoal silver, candy apple red over top and this clear coat. Deltron Delglo 1 part Dau82 clear, 1 part Dau2 Catalyst, and 1/2 urethane reducer. I think this is why I am having trouble with the blue, I think the mix ratio were different, paint was thicker and required more reducer that today, I was using 8-4-1 and it may have been closer to 1-1

got to go put down another coat.

I should have stayed in bed.
there was no rain in today's forecast. :susp: heavy clouds cooler temp but no rain.
Just got 2nd coat of clear on, and it started raining. water was pouring off the roof and all of a sudden a gust of wind blew water all over my clear coat. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
I blew it off but the damage was done, little rings everywhere.

So, do I continue 2 more coats, and hope to buff out, or stop, let sit overnight fog sand and start again:shrug:

Oh that's a bummer. You should wait and fix it or it will bother you forever.

So I waited 45 min, used a maroon 3m scratch pad and scuffed all of the water rings, then applied 2 more coats of clear, looks acceptable.
Next day sanded, buffed and assembled.
As I said, it's not perfect, but just like my rebuild before, is it a show Jeep or a wheeling Jeep :pickme:

It's gratifying to have a trash can full of empty Ziploc bags.

I can relate to that. I've got plenty of labeled ziploc bags hanging around. Now I just need to organize the bags.

    The Jeep looks great!

Took the kids out for a ride around the neighborhood. Its not running great, timing is off, valves still need adjustment, but the kids didn't mind one bit. Don't mind the stuff covering the seats, I have cats that think my Jeep is their bed.

I waxed the windows on the soft top. They buffed up rather clear. Not bad for 35 years old with over a decade in the garage rafters. Stitching in the doors starting to fail in a few small places though.
Fished out the factory skid plate. Worked it on the anvil and it came out reasonable. It didn't agree with the t18 though so the cutoff wheel made it yield. Shake and shoot coating. I'd like to make something better, waiting to see what Fino comes up with to rip off/ save brain power. For now it's fine for an "eastern rigged" machine.
Fixed a few snaps on the top. Inner windshield frame in the truck to be dropped off tomorrow. Finished the battery hold down, connected the battery and verified all the lighting / signals again.
Getting hard to find stuff to do. Last meaty thing install the PTO and sort out the shaft to the winch. Oh the fairlead needs tweaked. Partially disassembled, side rollers siezed currently soaking. I should send it to ITLKSEZ for r&r

Looks great but Without an arch in the rollbar that may hold and pool water if it doesn't have anything underneath.
