30k is for the possible buyer at 20k thinking they got a deal. I’m guessing he paid 6k - 8k for it.....if that.

It's one of those things, even if the guy gave it to me, it'd still cost me 20-30 in restoration! lol So, what did it cost new?

$4,500? $29,000 in today's money is $4500 in 1971 dollars. I paid $4,400 for a fully-optioned CJ-5 in 1973, with soft top, roll bar and hubs. I could have bought a 2002tii for the same money.

Phil was a hair quicker on the draw and had a lot more cash flow then I was willing to pay.
About 8 years ago I found a nice one owner Silver Anniversary CJ5 in Colorado being sold on consignment.
I don't recall the original asking price but I had him down to 5k after speaking with them for a couple days.
I told him I'd get my funds in order and call him back the next day.
Call back the next day and it was sold.
One week later I found Phil had it listed for sale for 22k and he hadn't done a thing to it.
I'm thinking Phil must have gave him "at least" 6k to make the guy change course like he did.

OMG!!! Phil is a pretty nice guy, but 100% salesman. When I go there(not that often), he takes me around the place and shows me what he has for sale, like I'm going to buy what he's showing me, but he is not pushy by any means. He does have a great deal of jeep parts, but mostly '76 and up cause that seems to be where the money is., but again, he wheels and deals in all kinds of toys;)

I'm sure he is, and I hope my post didn't sound negative towards him that wasn't my intentions. It's business, if I had a beef it was with the consignment sales person. I actually laughed out loud when I found Phil's for sale ad a week later. At that time I already owned a SA CJ5 and currently own two.

Not at all Chuck, I didn't take what you wrote with any negativity;) However, he must have a pretty good following as he seems to move his "product" pretty quickly, and it's just him. He has a couple workers there, but he handles ALL the transactions.I have a few more items to buy from him for my Jurassic jeep, then that will be about it.

If it was a convertible it might fetch that much. A hardtop, no way.
I like the color too, same color as my JC.
