I have a steering box that I need to rebuild. It has a S on the casting and in another spot it it has a 76 on it. My question is what is it so I can get a rebuild kit for it. Thanks

They didn't have it. They have 83 and 84. Mine has 76. Thanks for trying. I will contact them and see if they know what it is.

The "76" box was one of their heavier duty versions. I don't recall any more what the specifics were on it, but it was better than the standard boxes. At least that's what the magazine writers of the 90's said. ;)

I believe you will find that the 76 is a series 800 box,4 bolt mount, inverted flare fittings and 13/16-36 input configuration. Take some measurements to confirm. You will have to count the input revolutions to determine the "quickness" of the gear...it should be about 4 to 4 1/2 turns lock to lock.
As jeepermc mentioned, these were considered the most desirable gear back in the day.
