MY "Old" Buddy leaded mine for me , he had a bunch of 30/70 from the old days. That is a bad area even for Jeep not in the rust belt.

Mike replied back to me today regarding a message I sent him a day or two ago saying there is interest on our forum for maybe a dozen repair sections. He said "OK, will do".
It sounds like he's going to contact the metal shop that makes them for him. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Mike just emailed me and the new batch of Repair Parts are ready:

"I just made another batch of these and still at the same price TYPE A $49.00 & TYPE B IS 28.00" plus shipping

Type "A" is the whole lower tailgate with pins...Type "B" is the area between the Hinge Pins only

Contact him at mikegamby208@gmail.com and tell him Art sent you.

If any of you run across one I'm looking for a "Emerald Green" Willys Tailgate in good condition and with the knock outs still present would be a bonus (I have an original Half Cab). I have one now that is Tan.

What are the " knock outs"?

The prepunched holes for the footman loops. All of them are still present on the rear of my 48 CJ-2A because it never had the rear portion of a top installed.

See the pics here half cab

As part of the repair, I welded shut mines. If in the future I want to install the loops, I can drill them out new. Now I'm just waiting for the repair section from Mike to finish the job.

I could always do that but this is sort of a time capsule 95% original, 26K miles the actual tires from 48. Good friend of mine works for Goodyear and researched date stamps in the tire. Wanting to keep it that way and only replacing the after market parts with good used or NOS. Hoping Battery will be the only thing not original.

The rear body panels on either side of the tailgate also has 2 knockouts per side that are often still intact. They are at the same level as the tailgate versions, for the same purpose. The 1950s tops used footman loops for the straps on the soft top before snaps came into use.

Exactly - mine are all in tact including the top storage footmans holes on the passenger side rear fender flat surface as you can see if you looked at my website pictures.

Sorry for hijacking this thread...back to those that need a tailgate repair panel

I'm not sure mine can be repaired. Has anyone bought the OMIX tailgate? How bad is it?

I got mine recently and boy, what an amazing piece! The repair was the easiest, most straight-forward I have done so far. Very straight piece and with the exact dimensions. I posted a few pics in my build. I don't know how to post a link here but I will add a couple of pics just in case.

I used one of the MD Juan tailgates which is what Omix imports on my 47 CJ2A. It is the M38 version which is what I wanted for the reinforcement. It looks fine and is well made, the only issue I had with it was the hinge pins were too thick to fit in the slot of the hinge and I had to do a little grinding.

I will be traveling to Marlinton WV sometime in May or June and have a couple of decent tailgates both are from 67 CJ5s (no logo).

Neither are perfect but they wouldn't be hard to make right. I will be using one on my CJ5 but would sell the other for $75.

PM me if you are interested and I can throw one on the truck.
