So my Dad has this Carter carb 4598s, and every place says it is a YF carb. So my question is can I get an adapter and put this on my 58 CJ5? It has the stock motor in it with the Solex cab, it works, but I don't like how it Idles and does not have much for adjustment, I know KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), but it makes me cringe when the thing is running at 1800 rpm when cold. :(

It shows it is off a ford truck, but is it the same carb as the one that the jeep ran?

    Thanks for the help.

It should fit without any adaptor if it is a YF, and yes Ford used them too.

If it doesn't fit send me a picture of it. I have more than a few spare parts for these including the throttle bodies which is what bolts to the manifold.

Great thanks, I do need the throttle body, because it fits directly on the intake manifold but it needs the other piece to bring it up over the valve cover for the throttle to move or it hits.

How much did you want for one? :D

I am not even sure we are talking about the same thing. What other piece?

A picture of what you have would help.

The 4598 is for a six-cylinder motor. Is that what you have?

A Ford truck carb is most likely for a 300 6 cylinder, you'll have to change the jet & metering rod for a 4 cylider. Will the throttle linkage work? The air cleaner?

I have a rebuildable YF core in the classifieds that came off a wrecked M38A1.
