and to top it all off, it was in northern NY, where cars go to die (of rust). not to mention the cow manure it was constantly exposed to...

about the last 10 years of it's life was spent in various cow pastures, just sitting there sinking into the ground. the 20 before that it was getting stuck in those same pastures.

Am I missing a strap that would go around the starter? I see where the bracket goes to the block but don’t see anything on starter housing to attach it to

My original Delco starter was drilled and tapped for the bracket bolt.
    My replacement starter was not.
Bracket now in spare parts inventory.

My '34 flathead ford has a supplemental bracket - some say it is beneficial as an electrical ground.

Yes the original starters did have a hole drilled/tapped for that mounting bkt to the block. Not sure the flat piece is even for a Jeep.

That's interesting...I was pretty sure my starter was original but there is no hole in it for the bracket.

    Before I rebuilt it:

Did the engine insulator mounts have sleeves inside of them around the bolt that goes to the frame? I found one on the RH side but none on the LH side. EF74DAEC-86FF-42EB-8A33-CE463A8D7641.jpeg

I guess I can try and make one from 3/8” i.d. Pipe after I clean this one up - or does anyone know where I might be able to find one?

also while I’m at it does anyone know the correct length of the 7/16”-14 bolts that secure the engine mounts to the cylinder block?

Long enough to catch enough threads, but not so long as they bottom out?

    ...I'll see myself out.

It's a hole in the block. Stick a probe in it and see how deep it is.

the flat piece is the support for an oil dipstick. The small hole is used for a valve cover bolt to hold in place and the large hole goes over the dipstick tube
