My dash has at least 12 switch sized holes. I have a harness coming which will guide me somewhat I would guess. Does anyone have a layout or picture of what switches go where? I don't think this is in my version of the shop manual. Also, was any gauge placed above the steering wheel? Most pics I see there is a sticker. This is not a restoration piece but I would like to get ii close to correct in case I some day get close to there. Thanks

Here's the '71 dash layout from the owner's manual:

Renegades had amp and oil pressure gauges to the lower left of the steering column and it sounds like they were optional on standard Jeeps. Never in the location you are discussing though.

I can provide you with some pictures of mine if you like. Mine is a 1971 RII, with the optional guages.

What year is your CJ5? If it is a 73 that you have as your member name, then it might not be the same as the 71 and earlier dash. I made this diagram below to better show the layout at least through 71.

Please, if you have a sec. If I have to cut gauge holes they might as well be close to where they are supposed to be.

Fireball, this helps a lot. I have all 5 holes to the left. The only switch left in the dash was the light switch.

    Here you go.

In the above diagram by Rubicloak the hole marked as #6 is the optional brake warning light. I just put a stainless plug over the hole.

Interesting about the optional brake warning light. Mine does not even have a hole for it and I can not remember ever having seen one in any Jeep. Was that a dealer option or something? I presume its for the parking brake. I'll have to look in my FSM (1971 ver. ) to see if it is even shown there. Would be interesting to see some picture on how it is hooked up and the activating switch.
