2000 Chevy 4.3 No Spark At Plugs

Maybe? Just gonna throw parts at it for now. The Howell harness uses all weatherpack connectors and is well made. The fault is somewhere though..

 

Sometimes you just don't focus on the basics and don't look at the simplest of solutions.

My CJ2a has a running 4.3 FI engine in it now. Why did it have no spark when cranking? Well if you ohm out the starter switch, the ACC and ING poles both have power when you turn the switch to the run position, but the ACC does not have power in the start position. I had the power to the ignition, (coil and ignition module) tapped into the ACC . I switched them and it started immediately.

Its a simple error with a simple fix. Just because it has FI and a computer doesn't make the problems I had any more complex. It probably needed a new distributor because of the rust, but the root cause was wrong power hookup.

BTW, this engine runs so smooth. Nothing like the odd fire... I might miss it.

 

I did the exact same thing recently with my Holley Sniper install.

 

Thanks for being so candid about your solution. To me, this is an excellent reminder that my multimeter is my friend. Measure, measure, measure.

 

I fix things for a living. Occasionally I miss some elementary stuff. I am also not so proud as to not admit mistakes.Many times those mistakes or failures are what true learning and knowledge stems from. Sometimes another set of eyes will find the solution. My motivation is to create a solution to a problem and not puff out my ego.

I hope that this thread someday helps someone else persevere and work through a problem.

 

Good job trouble shooting and solving the problem. It’s good motivation to finish the project hearing it run.

 

nothing was in place, wiring all over, air intake isnt right... But I know that once I hear it run, I won't stop till im driving it. Its all falling into place now, really moving along at a really fast pace. At this rate, I may have it back on the road by next weekend.
