I think it was a trac lok. Probably original to the 5 back in 73.

    I'm confused.
Was the differential damage related to the transfer case?

    Been there done that.
Another trac loc ends it's miserable life. Hopefully the gears are still usable.
    Any thoughts on a replacement?
    Powr lok?
    Tru trac?
The nice part is if the R&P is salvageable, you are basically a backlash setting away from replacement.

I did that on Dana 70 Once.. Still baffled how it happened.. Just cruising on a flat highway..

I had the roll pin that holds the axle gears cross shaft fail at cruise speed of about 40 MPH in my 3B. The shaft slid out and hit the pinion locking down the axle. Both rear tires locked and began to slide on the pavement. Ruined two new tires, made big flat spots on them. Not to mention I did a complete 180 on the highway before I got it stopped. I was about 50 miles from home too. Pulled the cover and removed all the axel gears and pieces. removed rear drive shaft, locked hubs and drove on.

I'm just now starting to build the tcase. Had no idea or warning this was gonna happen.

Gears are NOT usable. I actually bought a E Locker recently for this axle. Didn't know this was goin to happen.
Considering put up the $$ for an E Locker for the front also while this is down, and just finish both.

    Trac Lok's are crap.

Keepers fall out, cross shaft hole wallows out, clutches disintegrate, the list goes on. All these things result in various chunks and pieces falling out and usually being ingested in the R&P, causing catastrophic failure of the differential assembly.
