That would be tempting but I secured a complete nv4500 last night.

I think it does have points.
The HEI conversion should fix em!

You've got a few weeks to build it up for HITR.
    Should be plenty of time.

I already have this ZZ4 crate engine, it will be topped with pro flow 4 fuel injection.
I am planning to pull a serpentine drive setup from an early 90's pickup for the front.
While a 350 chevy swap is about as basic white girl as it gets......
355hp/400tq should adequately propel the jeep down the trail.

The complete NV4500 package was scored for me by a good friend up in central Oregon.
Gunner owns a transmission shop and has pretty good "hillbilly" connections in the area.
He bought me this complete unit for about half price of a core, and will be making me a sweet deal on the rebuild.

Dogs always love a good 60/40 seat.

    She loves the bench seat!
I’m struggling because I love the vintage look….
The bench seat in a Jeep on 37’s would be awesome!
But I’m not sure the seat will provide enough support for wheeling.

A four or five point harness will fix that.

    That'll do nicely.

Are you sure you don't want to put a stinky, heavy, low power Cummins 4BT in it?

    If I didn't have the ZZ4 already....
    I would go ford ecoboost.

You should anyway. It would be amazing at altitude.

But... Ours does not like a lot of throttle variation. It likes a steady load.

    Very true.
A good upholstery shop could build some bolsters into the bench seat to support the driver and passenger seating locations.

I have definitely looked into it and it appears that an old school 4 speed could be adapted.....
This project is already derailing my AMX build enough as it is..... The 350 install is basically a weekend swap if I was just doing it down and dirty style.

    Not the transmission.

    Just curious; Why the NV4500?

    Gearing:
    6.34, 3.44, 1.71, 1, .73, R 6.34 or, 5.61, 3.04, 1.67, 1, .74, R 5.61
and depending on the specific model and sbc Kyle has, it may be native mating which always keeps things a bit more straightforward.
The added length of the 5 speed is not an issue with the long wheelbase of the cj6....would be the same in a wagon.....my budget was too tight to investigate such an option in my wagon, and I am a bit more focused on keeping as much OEM aspects as possible, but maybe one day....It might be questionable whether a rig running 37s really needs an OD depending on the axle gearing, but at the same time, if running 37s, and I think Kyle might be thinking of of some step-up trails like Dusy etc, he's going need a lot of crawl so can't get the axle gearing too high. Plus Kyle will probably get the handling and suspension so nice, that 80mph would be reasonable, and then the OD would come into use.

    Thanks James.
I had access to a rebuilt one when I started looking at 5 speeds, hence my curiosity. But also surprised he's not going a standard 4 speed compound 1st, ala 465, etc.

This build is gonna be basically the same as his Tahoe... 350 nv4500. He must be happy with it.
