Happily, the Jeep is very drivable. I need a place for the phone, coffee cup and maybe a little storage. I could build something out of wood or stab an aftermarket unit in. I really don't want something massive. I figure some of you have been creative. Let me see what you have! Thanks

For my phone I have a mountain bike phone mount on the passenger's grab bar. An ammo can is great for a few odds and ends then you can bolt a cup holder to the front of the ammo can. There are marine gimble mounted cupholders that keep the drink from spilling (topic is also up on the CJ2A site)

Phone mount I'm using and works well off road

A roll of Gorilla tape laying on the floor makes a dandy cupholder (really!) and you have tape when you need it!

I haven't done it myself, but I've seen a surplus ammo can used for a console many times.

For my phone, I use a suction cup mount stuck to the bottom of the windshield:

I welded a a tab to a short chunk of 3" exhaust pipe to make a cup holder for the '69. It attaches to one of the factory bolts. Seem to work well (pardon the detritus. The Jeep really needs a cleaning):

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of the phone mount and then some cup holders out of something strong. That way if I lay something long between the seats I am not destroying something.

This is what I came up with. I will more than likely do the phone holder above too. Thanks again! cup holders.jpg

I used a small ammo can and painted it black and mounted some cheap cup holders on the lid. Works great for me and very water proof. Don't have a smart phone so have nothing for that.

I used the tall 50 cal. ammo can for my cj5 with 3" exhaust couplers for cupholders

Why not just get a used OEM part? Mine is like that shown in the link and is very handy.

    Maybe the $150 price tag?

No way a late CJ center console will fit between the seats of an early CJ - its too wide.....An intermediate might fit it with the wider position of the driver seat with the updated steering column position.....
