I have replaced the small rubber button/cap numerous times now. The issue is they start crack in short time, they they won’t stay on. I’ve tried a dab of silicone but no use. Does anyone have any other solution. It’s like it needs a C clip.

Are you looking for purity? I installed a metal horn button in my dash. It's easy to get to if I ever needed it.

I used the same but put it on the steering column. I got tired of the rubber cover that wouldn't stay on.

So I’m not alone. I’m thinking a wire wrapped around to keep it there. May not work but worth a try.

It's definitely worth a try, I never thought about that.

And yet the originals still work fine after 60 years. Can you locate a used one?

A PO converted to power steering and lost the capability of "stock" routing, otherwise I probably would have tried harder to achieve it's original location. I only installed one to be legal if that's even a requirement?

Just another cheap made imported replacement with close to zero durability. Just a thought-has anyone converted these to the earlier hard plastic 2A version?

But I’ll give you a brand new nice shinny one in exchange for that old dull yucky one.

FWIW the under seat fuel tank neck grommet I got from Walcks deteriorated and cracked in less than a year. Parked under roof mostly.

Yup. The carb horn air hoses are notorious, too. Waste of time and money.

I wonder if other cars have the same issues with parts, Hudsons, Pontiacs, etc.

Good question, it's something I've wondered about too.

I don't even know what the horn button should look like... but I can draw and print most anything.

It is a flexible rubber with a metal dish inside so when you push it flexes the metal dish to short across.
