Differential Fluids

    What fluids should i be putting in my front and rear differentials? 1968 CJ5 V6

    Use the same 80-90w Gear oil that you'd use for your Tranny/T-Case.

    Sort of. Transmissions with brass synchro rings such as our old Jeeps have should be using GL4 rated gear oil....most modern oils are GL5 rated and can cause shifting issues. But GL5 is perfectly fine for diffs.

    Straight 90WT GL5 was the norm.
    That being said, in super cold climates, one can go a tad thinner like a 70WT or use a multivis, such as a 75/90.
    The inverse is true as well. Hotter climbs or heavy service can use a higher API rating.
    As stated, be sure to include a friction modifier for any clutch/cone style limited slip differentials.

    Word from the wise on a new project is to pull the cover and clean out the goop.
    Then fill with 80-90.

    Don't just top it off. :oops:

    I should be more clear. Only distilled mountain spring water from the French alps. Shipped overnight so it stays fresh. :D
