Rare? ...maybe...many were cut in half and re-welded back together.
Value - NO WAY for $4K if it's been cut.

 

Cut in FOUR. The ones that weren't crushed under a tank track, per regulations.

Local guy I knew, re-built over 100 of them.

 

I'd like to drive one of those around. This one, with 2 pictures and almost description, wouldn't likely be the one. Seems like they should ride nice on the street when driven with sense.

 

Guy 15 miles west of my tired carcass, has one.
Never been close enough to stop him,he has been moving right at all long in it.......

Course, wife says " You drive, like an old man......."

 

I’ve seen at least 6 of these over the years that were never cut and were in private hands. One is up in Miami. Another one “escaped” from Ft Bragg. It got “lost” in the woods while on maneuvers. A year later or more later, it drove out of the woods once the driver was out of the Service.
I expect a lot more ended up in private hands without ever be cut in big pieces. This one's pretty rare with the hard top.

Really wanted one when I was in high school, yard had a few of them in next town but $1500 was too rich for me

Jeep corporate undoubtedly did a little lobbying when we left Vietnam, and they were facing the prospect of tens of thousands of cheap surplus 'jeeps' suddenly hitting the market.

I recall my own disappointment and have always felt "the fix was in."
