    Hi all

I was browsing the local adds when I saw a Warn x8000i winch for sale, 20 minutes from my house, at 250$ canadian. Having done some research online and here also, I got there yesterday. After hearing it on power, there was no funny noiseor smell. So i gave the guy his money, and walked home.

Tonight at 4 I'm going to be on vacation for 2 weeks.   Plenty of time to inspect all the interior and do the wiring, and also the install.

Speaking of install. It is already mounted on a plate with a receiver. Should I keep it this way, so I can take it to the back (which will involve the removal of the spare) or should I mount it fixed on the front bumper ??

    Thanks for listening

It is kinda up to you on the reciever plate. I would make another plate and permanently mount it on the front if it was mine though. There have been several times when I have kinda wished the winch could be moved to the back, but if you ride with a group there is usually somebody that can help you out if you have to be pulled backwards. Just my opinion on it.:)

:iagree: It'd be a cleaner mount as well.

    And stronger.

That's how mine is mounted. I bought my x8000i used from a friend. It is a great winch and has already been used several times to aid recovery efforts. Here is a pic so you can see how its mounted.

Portability is a nice thing, just make sure to secure it with a lock so it doesn't "walk off" . If it's your DD, I'd say leave it on the reciever. That way it's safe at home when your parked, but easy to put on when you plan to go wheelin. My .02

    mb82 I feel great!

I like it. I know it is not the strongest way to do it but thats my plan, have wireing setup for front rear of chia and rear of ZJ

I've been in a worst case scenario or two (slid off a logging road in the snow, nose first into the bank next to the road) where having a winch on the rear would have saved a lot of trouble. Even so, I do like the idea of having a solid-mount to the frame in the front. Looks better too IMHO.

i have a buddy who did the receiver mount setup so he could put his winch on the rear when needed. It never was! After a few years of listening to it rattle on the receiver, he mounted it permanently on the front. The way it was meant to be mounted.

As I mentioned before I would rather have it mounted up front. However, if you had spare room to store it inside the Jeep somewhere I might consider leaving it as it is so you can take it out when you need it, and put it where you need it. I wouldn't leave it mounted to the receiver plate unless I could do that though.

    Thanks guys

I tested the winch today, everything is clean inside, and it worked just great !! The beauty of it is I payed only 250$ for it.

As for the ``how should I mount it`` question, for now it will stay on the receiver. I'll try it like this for a while, and I'll be able to mount it on the front later.

I,ll get myself some connector to unplug the winch from the battery. More on this later, now I'm on vacation for 2 weeks and I'll have plenty of time to work on this....

    nickmil In mothballs.

One thing, however you mount it, get some kind of fairlead on that thing to guide the cable back on. If you don't the cable is going to get snarled and end up damaging the cable, the winch, both, or someone will get hurt. Nickmil

X2 on the fairlead, and if you decide to use the receiver plate it looks like it still has enough room to mount one.
