Roll Cage Pics Thread (some are large!!)

    I know that was his only rule when we built that he not hit his head any more R) He came by today and fits in with plenty of room....now if it had been anybody else we could of lowered it 6" :) But its still pretty low profile, at the highest point its 50" above the floorpan.

    How much would a cage like this cost to have fabricated? It looks to be exactly what I want to do... I want to use the somewhat stock roll bar and transform it into the "family style" roll cage.

    Here's a link to an article about Bend-Tech Pro that I wrote for Off-Road.Com if anyone wants to read a little bit more about that software program. I haven't built a new rollcage for my CJ5 yet, but I plan on designing it using Bend-Tech Pro and I'll be able to share a file with anyone that needs basic measurements after it's done.

    This one your looking at in the pics would be around a 1000 for materials/labor/painting/hardware and installing. You could prob get it for bit cheaper ~8-900) if you wanted to paint it and wanted a little more basic of a cage.

    That is pretty much exactly what I am thinking about doing with my 79. I got a couple of questions though. What wheelbase did you end up with on that one? Did you stretch the wheelbase in the front any? And do you by any chance have any pics of how you did the inside of the tub? Also, did you cut the rear of the frame off any, or just build from the frame?

    Yeah, I know, I ask too many questions.:) :)

    The Jeep belongs to a previous employee that already had a bunch of the work done before he came in for the cage and dovetail. Not sure what the final WB is but I "believe" its around 100". Running full hydralic steering in the front on 4"? CJ lift springs and 4 link rear 14bolt. The rear of the frame has been built off of. He added some tube to the rear and then built a new bumper on the back..

    Let me see if I can find some more pics....

    It looks almost exactly like what I am wanting mine to look like, but I was hoping for just a tad longer wheelbase. I know I am plannin on stretchin the front a little bit, so if you can dig up a closer look at the front so I can see if it is stretched any that would be great. I'm gonna shoot for 106, but I may just have to settle for a little less to make it look right. It'll be pretty much the same combo on mine though. I know the springs will be outboarded factory rear cj in the front, and four linked in the rear with air shocks, 60 front, 14 bolt rear, and 42's or 44's. Just trying to make sure it is gonna look like I want it to, with close to the wheelbase I am shooting for, before I start hackin on the tub and the frame.

    The sheetmetal didnt come out as nice as it should have, but he was rushing us (4days to do all the work) to get it done and didnt really care about it :rofl:

    EXCELLENT!!!!! You have pretty much answered everything I have been trying to figure out all week, and it was the answers I was hoping for. I will be able to stretch mine out a little bit more in the front, and with stock leaf springs in the front it'll still sit a little lower, but with bigger tires it'll put it back up there but most likely have the stance I am looking for. The way the rear tub was done looks great, but mine will be a little different because my rear shocks will angle in a little bit and tie into the cage with some shock hoops, and I won't have any springs in the rear, so I will probably hack the frame off a little bit and do tubing for the entire back section since I have a little bit of rust in the very rear of the frame.

    Those pics pretty much show me right where I will need to cut the back of the frame, how I want to do the tub, and everything else I have been trying to picture in my head all week.

    That is a good question. I will be starting on it here in the next week or so, and I already have the frame completely stripped, blasted, and painted (just to keep it from rusting again). Also the main reason I wanted to use the tub is because the driver's side floorpan is in terrible shape, but I what I am really wanting to do is cut the driver and passenger side out completely and resheetmetal it completely different since I will also be tuckin the tranny and t-case as far up as I can go with it. Also, the rear corners are rusted out pretty bad on the bottom of both sides, but I want to do the comp cut and dovetail like you did on that one, so that doesn't matter. Only thing else I am gonna do different from that orange one is that I am seriously thinking about doing some cutting about 1" from the bottom of the door, and angling that in toward the frame with some plate, since that part of room in the floorpan isn't really necessary to me. I know, angling that part in doesn't really make a ton of difference clearance wise, but I have a pic of one done that way somewhere and I just like the way it looks.

    Pretty much all the rest of the stuff like outboarding, stretching, axles, springs, Fox air shocks, hydro steering, and the 350/350 (not sure which t-case I'm gonna use yet), and the propane are all things that I have done on a couple others, but they were 7's and one YJ, so I was just wondering what the 5 would look like. My main reason for doing this over going with a YJ or a 7 is that I already have a good frame settin there with nothing to go on it right now, and that particular tub has so much rust in the floor and the rear corners that I would probably just trash it if I didn't do what I am talking about with it.

    Those pics helped me out alot, and made this a great Friday, I just wish I had noticed them sooner so I wouldn't have been staring at so many different rigs trying to imagine what I was wanting to do.
