"Hunter Manufacturing" gas heater

So I have this gasoline fired heater under my driver's seat made by Hunter Mfg from Cleveland OH. 15K BTU. Haven't the nerve to spark it up until I can remove the potpourri (mouse nests, rodent urine, cherry seeds, shredded seat foam) and replace the fuel line. Previous owner says it works but he had that daredevil look in his eyes and he wasn't old enough for the names Grissom, Chaffee, and White to mean anything to him. Anyone ever see one of these?

I wonder if photos would be helpful in a post like this....

 

I'm thinking an under-seat halon system triggered by a scream detector.

This thing looks pretty old. Probably 50's, 60's, maybe older? It's in good shape but nothing newfangled and modern by any means. I did a search on "Hunter Manufacturing Cleveland" but my company's firewall shut me down for firearms related stuff. Apparently they're afraid I'll threaten someone with a bitmap image of an assault rifle. What I could access was all Army surplus tent heaters and conduit heaters so this could be surplus too, I suppose. It looks like it was made with underseat mounting in mind. I'll have to look for mfg date. And maybe post a photo. It's a silver painted metal box.

 

Hunter Manufacturing provides the heaters for the majority of the military trucks and such. I build one from a duece and a half up to fit a friends '53 . It claims to put out 3500 BTUHs.

 

Unrelated to the Hunter, my buddy has a late 50's CJ5 rotted out back of his shop. For kicks we threw a batter jumper on it, and the heater blower fired right up...I'm going to try to hijack that bad boy for the '73....cool, for sitting for three years.

Thankfully he closed off the core prior to parking it.

All of the mounting looks similar.

Sorry to Hijack...back to the Hunter....gas fired scares the bejeezus outta me. We are staring at the unit hanging on his '47, and double dog daring each other to try it...
