I ran out of time but I think I have a problem . I fired the jeep up to see what it would do , the motor kinda fluttered like it was getting a weak spark . So I pulled a wire and the spark did look really weak . I talked to a friend and he told me to replace the coil . I got to thinking ... I know trouble... I think I need to remove the ballist resistor . Whats yalls thoughts on it?:hurrican:

Yes, it's not needed with a hall-effect distributor. The only function of a ballast resistor is to reduce the current across the breaker points so that arcing is kept to a minimum. No points = no ballast resistor. :)

:iagree: too, swaped out the points dist in a chevy to hei, ran like crap, later on found out that the wire going to the coil on a chevy, has the right amount of resistance in it, so no resistor needed, ran new wire to the switch to supply 12vdc, ran great, as said no points no resistor

keep in mind that some coils would overheat without the resistor.make one test around your house before go to a trip or something like that.
did you installed the omix-ada f-134 electronic distributor?or pertronix system?

its the omix ada one. this morning I bypassed the ballist resistor and fired her up. It sounded better before it died...... I havnt set the timing yet and it was pretty cold also so that was to be expected . I didnt have time to play with it so Ill give yall a full report about it sometime doing the weekend.
    Thanks

While I agree that it's not needed for an electronic distributor. I'm still confused. I thought the F-head didn't have a ballast resistor?????????

I found this last week that the Checkers and AutoZone stores don't carry coils that don't need the ballast. A bit inconvenient, if you ask me. Now if I want to use the coil I picked up, then I also have to install the ballast resistor. Plymouth Acclaim ones should fit.:coffee:

Ok that fixed it .............. I thought I had my timing light here but its back at the shop 40 miles away ..... maybe my nieghbor has one. I set it by ear and its ok but I think its a little off.
