YJ springs....

Just thinking out loudly here, how much would it cost all said and done to do outboard YJ springs with stock height springs? I want a little more flex and taller tires.... I know it's a YMMV deal but I don't think it would be more then the materials and perches?

 

I cost me about $400 when it was all said and done with my cj5


Steering done right, brakelines done right, traction bar done right. A lot of stuff to think about and still make it safe. Even materials add up.

Do you really need a traction bar with leafs?

 

With soa you will especially with soft YJ springs, Steep gears or a stout engine.

Unless you get springs with a ton of arch you will need to fab up a Traction bar.
Also unless you like busting U-joints or breaking pinion yokes I would seriously suggest factoring in a traction bar.

I also ended up getting a cv rear driveshaft as well to keep the hwy vibes down on my 5.

 

Lol, this is 60 hp of fury. I'd like 32's more flex and I have 5.38's in the axle. I'm keeping it SUA...

No sir, don't have the patience for it lol. But I don't like the flex I have now.

 

I think you could do it for close to the price of materials then. there maybe other issues but not near as much as going SOA.

I can not find it on the web right now but he did a YJ SOA on his 2a way back with a shackle reversal and 4 five leaf rear YJ springs for JP. A few of my buddies copied the design for CJs and Samurai and worked well for them.

 

LowslowTJ has a cool set up as well. I think it is sua in the back and soa in the front or vise versa.

 

Uhh, Sammy, outboarding the springs will reduce flex.... less leverage between the tire through the axle and to the spring. Plus if you are keeping your existing axles you probably don't have room to outboard. Might want to take a closer look.
Personally, I'd say a good quality set of leafs or a custom pack set up would do much more for you.

 

It would reduce flex but the over all ride would improve and you don't have much room for more flex anyway. I have the 2 1/2" superlift early Jeep springs and ~32" tires. I know I repaint my inner rear fenders and the bottom of my front fenders every trip. A softer ride with the same amount of flex would be perfect.

 

I didn't say no nuttin about outboarding... More about the swap in stock location, though with the offset diffs thinking now it may not work. Chuck I wish I had the coin for them, maybe I'll start saving my bread

My buddy has a YJ frame he said to put the Jeep on

 

Stock height YJ springs are flatter than stock replacment flatty springs therefore won't help with taller tires.
