Car buying options

I have been thinking about a new car for a year now. I had planned on keeping my Wrangler for trail and play use. But, Jeep threw a monkey wrench into my options.

The 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk V6 is now at the top of my short list.....
The only thing it is missing is a diesel engine. All of my other choices were sedans or wagons with Diesel.

It looks like I may be moving into to double quiter's club in a couple of months.

The Cherokee is kind of growing on me, especially the Trailhawk version.
However at this point I wouldn't trade my LJ for one. I'd like the better gas mileage, but I couldn't justify taking a 2014 on the tight, brushy trails we run.
My LJ makes a good dual-purpose rig for me, but a new Cherokee simply couldn't fulfill the same role.

I'd suggest waiting for the 2015 Cherokee, knowing Chrysler's reputation for problems with first-model-year vehicles.

    Keep us posted... :)

I normally would agree with you but it has been 2 years since the last time I had my Wrangler out where I actually needed it. I just don't go wheeling like I used to.

The Trailhawk will fit my needs much better and will still get me to the remote camp sites I want to use. And it will do it in a lot more comfort.

I have to agree with the wait. First year vehicles for everyone tend to have little issues.

Back in 97 when Ford released the new f150's the wheels were falling off because of a poorly designed lug nut. Always wait for second or third year before purchase so someone else can be the guinea pig.

Unfortunately, if they do to the Cherokee what they did to the Grand Cherokee, I may not be able to get the Trailhawk package after the first year. They only ran it for one year on the Grand and then discontinued it.

Just ordered the Trailhawk. Nice thing is I am under no obligation to actually buy it if I don't like it whenit comes in. I really hope I like it.

V6, trailer tow package, comfort and convenience group plus leather. For some reason I had to get leather with the other options I selected. They could not order it without.

when are they going to be shipping them out? Haven't heard when yet, but haven't really asked anybody up in sales yet...

Wish you could order individual options and didn't have to pick packages, but usually when you start getting the "comfort" stuff the leather seats come with.

The sales guy said 4 to 6 weeks but he seemed to not know about the delays that have been reported. I am supposed to get an email when the factory gets the order to start building. I agree about the individual options. Last vehicle I ordered as an 01 Dodge Durango and I was able to pick and choose the individual options.

Recevied my email from the factory that it has been scheduled for build. No specific date on that though.

Jeep updated with an Estimated delivery date of 9/24/2013. Estimated being the key word there. I am guessing Early October.

On another forum, a member posted pics of a White Limited they received earlier last week in Minnesota. In the pics he took, The Cherokee looks a lot better than the promotional pics released by Jeep.

It's built and going through inspection today. They revised the delivery date to 9/30. So that fits right into my early October time frame.

Still sitting in inspection status. I found out it is sitting in the train yard in Toledo waiting for factory release. So far I don't know of any production unit that has shipped yet. Wonder if they are going to release them all at the same time?

    probably.
When I worked at Ford we had to build a certain number of vehicles and then they all had to pass whatever inspections they had to do before they could be shipped. I remember going in on saturdays and sundays durring launch to fix issues that didn't get fixed on the line. Sometimes it was a part that never made it to the factory on time.--cheaper to build the cars and then add the part later in the lot as long as it was easy to get to. Other times it was a tool that didn't get the right calibration for new build so we had to torque that one bolt on every car.
