It was complete and relatively unmolested.
Needs a complete going over, that's a summer project as I'm collecting parts right now.

 

My '88 Boston Whaler 18 Outrage. Was a mess when we got her. Refinished or replaced all the teak, new electricals, a date with a buffer, new cushions and a fresh new Yamaha. Aint she a peach!

 

One of the other toys. 1988 Mazda RX7 with basically a cam'd LS3/T56.

 

Who did you get the cushions from? I've got a 1985 15' supersport cc whaler and am looking into cushions now. I love old whalers, grew up with a 13 my dad re-did for me and my brother to use when I was 11.

 

Bent some plywood and installed a door today.

I bought this Monday afternoon. 1968 JD 110. Gave $100 for it, Paid a bit more than I wanted but for sentimental purposes, it was worth it.

 

Nice. I had one of those once, solid machine. The Variator belt drive (I think that is what it was called) was a very clever mechanism; behaved very similar to hydrostatic.

 

I just bought a 1973 John Deere 110 with additional snow blower front attachment. My grandpa was into John Deere's and had a huge collection of models and other things. When it came time to get a mower I couldn't see getting anything else. Plus if I buy something with pistons, it has to have some character to it.

 

Dang, I'll bet that joker scoots!

 

My wife and didn't care for the dining chairs in our travel trailer. The chairs are flimsy and two have had repairs so they don't collapse.


We decided being able to convert the table to a bed would be more practical.

Did you give up on the Teardrop?

 

No, it's still WIP. We sold, bought and moved so projects are lined up behind getting settled. We have a trip planned for later this summer so the change out on the dining chairs moved to the front of the line. Hope to get back on it soon.

 

I don't sit down very often, but figured it would be nice to have a chair that suits me when I do. I don't like shopping and really haven't found anything that I liked, so...build it. I wanted something "industrial", yet somewhat sophisticated. So, here we go...

Started with 1x2 rectangular tube, cut the various angles and details then capped the open channel with 1 inch strap after shaping to fit...

Used 1x2 rectangular tube for the cross pieces at the seat base and 1 inch square for the back...

To achieve the industrial look, I kept the welds short, no grinding and minimal cleaning so as to leave the heat discoloration, etc. I cleaned any remaining oil and applied two coats of Diamond Finish clear coat. It only comes in gloss, so once cured, I hit it all lightly with 00 steel wool to dull the sheen and get back to the raw steel look.

Then on to the wood (as I did not want the cold feel of steel for arm rests). My original thought was to use Mesquite, so I reached out to a long-time friend of mine in Texas who is a sales rep for a large hardwood company. He suggested I look at some Jarrah samples he had. It is a variety of Eucalyptus from Western Australia. While in Houston visiting my father, my friend brought several pieces by...it is a very nice wood and it was plenty for what I needed...and free. Interestingly, the samples were among several taken to George W Bush in consideration for a new deck he was having built at his Texas ranch. Alright then.

At this point you may be asking how you get something like this past the warden. You let her participate in the upholstery selection process so she feels like it is her project too. I'm happy with it, fits just right and very comfortable. Now, back to re-assembling that overdrive...
