I hear it was a 66 tux but because there’s no bridge to the island it was a total loss. Shame. :kumbaya::p

The diodes just came in the mail. 10 minutes later, the engine starts, the alternator charges, and the key shuts it off.

This thing is officially “done” enough to be put under a tarp until spring. Maybe I’ll find some funds over the winter to work on the fuel sending unit/gauge issue, and to order the supplies for the tire carrier; I’ve got some cool ideas for that. :sneak:

That is an issue. I'm glad they mostly use sand around here.

It’s maddening. They spray it before every snowfall, and it just makes the snow, that otherwise would pack down and create an insulating blanket for the road, turn into a slushy, caustic mess. It drives me insane. But it pleases the transplants when they see the county out there doing... something.

I fought pretreating for years. We started with liquid calcium chloride. Nasty stuff. Replaced 3 truck beds the first year. Went to brine after that. Didn’t see much advantage as we had 14 trucks on the road for 350 lane miles during the 3 am to 7:30 pm peak hours.

Mostly sand here. I buy Arkansas cars. Any farther south and I fear they have saltwater roads.

Do you have snowy roads all winter long up there?

Generally, yes. At least through January and February. But lately the winters have either been boom or bust. 8’ of snow or hardly any at all.

I made a junkyard run today, and while I was there, I grabbed a few injectors for the Jeep. Its #1 injector leaks like a sieve and makes it hesitant to start as it re-builds lost fuel pressure, and it was also causing a rich idle condition. I swapped it out today, and now it fires right up and purrs. I guess now I should change the oil to get the fuel-rich stuff out of there.

I also snagged a brake booster vacuum hose from a newer Volvo that has the check valve in-line. This will allow me to T the line past the valve and use the vacuum reservoir I built into the bumper.
