I haven't paid attention to the new ones, but some of the old hardtops definitely had way too small windows. I've often wondered if it was because of the cost difference, was a square foot of glass that much more expensive than a square foot of sheet metal?

I do realize that back then pennies could make a difference in affordability.

That is a good possibility. (profit) It seems like the 40s and 50s era Jeeps had tiny windows in the aftermarket hard tops, but as things went into the 60s and 70s the windows got bigger.

Does anyone have more info on the top shown in posts 33 and 57? I have one just like it that came with my 1965 CJ5a.

Internet search suggests it's a Kelly Cab--but there's no sure proof with identifying tags

Looks like somebody saw a ballooning soft top and thought "What a great idea for a hardtop!"
