New Brake Lines

I've been working on installing a Wilwood dual reservoir master cylinder kit on my '66 CJ5 and I've had some leakage issues with some of the flares I made (I think much of that has to do with the cheap flare tool). I was also wondering about the quality of the new brake line tubing. Anyone have any experience with buying new brake lines? Any brand of tubing better than others? I was trying to stay with American-made tubing, but that seems a little hard to find.

i prefer nicopp,bends well and flares easy. a good flaring tool will help.

 

I buy 6 foot lines and then cut them down and you only have to re-flare one end. It is usually cheaper then buying rolls and
I don't like rolled line at all.

 

My experience with double flaring is to pay attention to fully chamfering both the ID and the OD to get good flares.

I agree with all of you, I just finisher re-pluming my friends 39 Chevy, we put a 55 Chevy Pick up axel in it, six bolt wheels, open drive shaft, and a OD automatic, hooked to a fresh inline six. When I started a friend loaned me his new flaring tool, a good one, I did what PeteL said, cleaned up the end after cutting, and didn't have one leak. Now if I could just get him to put a duel master cylinder on it I would feel better about the car. That is the next upgrade I plane for my 64 Jeep.

 

Also make sure everything is super clean when you tighten them up. I use brake cleaner and a lint free rag.
