Sounds like an potential electrolysis nightmare.

I've seen Gruman stepvans and fire engines rot anyplace the two metals touch.

But of course now Ford is putting AL into their pickups...

    You'd think, wouldn't you?

I've heard the Discouveries have issues where the seatbelts are attached to the bodies.

The rover has a Bulkhead (i.e. Firewall) that is seperate from the rest of the body parts. It is the center point that the body builds off. This is steel. The fenders or "Wings" are aluminum. The grill is steel. The bed is aluminum, the section the seats sit on and the floors are aluminum. And the gas tank is steel. i just pulled it and there is a good size rotted hole in the side. hahaha

Looks like a beefy frame. Reminds me of old Scout frames.

Well it is a good day today. I got the V6 in the S10 started and running. so the motor is good to go for the Rover. I cant pull it until I get the frame done and some space to put the motor in the garage.

    I also reconstructed the Grill.

    It is a rusty hunk

It was a rusty hulk, now it has metal and looks a bit more respectable.

I didnt get my steel last week for the frame but I will have to work on that this week. I got a set of F150 rear springs and they should work pretty good for the Rover

So I ran out of wire in the welder and running out of gas for the welder so I am done with that for the day.
Plasma cutter is still working so i will cut out my fishplate for the frame rails and I have to get metal to cap the frame rails.
I have the rear crossmember notched and ready but I am not going to do that until i have the suspension mounts put on, it si easy to flip the frame as is, adding that wide rear crossmember will make that a PIA!

I also picked up the Tranny/tcase yesterday. SM465 to Dana 18

Are you going to graft the Rover's rear crossmember onto your new frame? That kind of a Rover's trademark look on the rear.
Be really careful when making and attaching the outriggers for the bulkhead/firewall. That is ground zero for all the alignment of all the body panels and assemblies.
    Looking good! -Donny

I am modifying the rear crossmember to mimic the rear. I am still debating on the PTO hole, I may put a 3 inch diameter hole instead of the 4 because of the limites space of the 2x5 tube.

I capped off most of the tube tonight.

Tomorrow I flip the frame over and get the suspension mounts welded on and add fish plate to the frame

I also have the rear crossmember done. It mimics the original Rover crossmember. I cant weld it on until after i get the suspension stuff on. Makes it difficult to flip the frame with that honker of a crossmember on it :)
