Can I join the crowd too? I once kicked around the idea of trying to mount a 37 on my original spare tire mount... Lol... I plan to carry a plug kit and stuff. For longer trips I'll just throw the spare on my Jeep trailer.

Remember the main use of a Hi-Lift is getting unstuck...

I ran my '69 cj5 with a skinny 600x16 tire sitting upright behind driver seat. tied to roll bar support. Never needed it all those years hunting in the boonies but
it was nice to have insurance.Took it out after hunting season and ran with out around town.I do have a dedicated full size spare on swing out bumper mount
since restoring it 7 years ago. The Renagade has the rear spare on body (stock) with no tailgate which makes it useless for much besides hauling the dog.

I have chosen the side position, this is correct with a small tyre. Good for the look and I can open the tailgate.

I used an OR Fab body mounted swing out on my CJ-6 that was originally designed for a TJ. Holds 10 gallons of fuel, a 33" spare, mount for CB antenna, and zero noise. One latch and it swings open. I did put corners on the jeep to reinforce them before hanging the carrier. One of the best mods I've done to the 6 hands down.

I am a rear swing tire carrier person. jeepermc, I recently bought an older style one like yours but have not got it ready to install yet. Does yours rattle much on the back?? Just wondering.

Mine has ZERO rattles. That's what I love about it. The latch pulls it right up tight to the body, the hinge swings are tight and below the latch is a rubber bumper. No noise whatsoever from the swing. Only thing that rattles is the high lift jack itself. And that's not a swingout problem. Mine is an OR Fab swingout intended for a TJ. I modified the mounts that go on the body slightly just by cutting off excess material, and we moved the post where the tire mounts to center it on the back of the Jeep. One of the best mods I've ever done. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
