    This is probably explained somewhere.
The fact is that, after some days, my Jeep takes time to start, maybe 10 turns of starter.
If I open the hood, act on the fuel pump, I hear that the carb is filling.
Then when I start it is immediate effect.
That means that the carb is emptying slowly.

Is it normal or is there something to do.
My main wish is to avoid touching this carb.
I cleaned it once, according to forum informations, and it works perfectly.

If the needle and seat are closing properly, there are only two ways for the fuel to get out. A crack in the bowl or evaporation.

What are you using for a fuel pump? If it is a cheap glass bowl reproduction, the check valves are garbage in those and will not keep fuel in the lines and it will drain back to the tank.

It is a full metal pump. I don't see fuel coming out the carb. It empties slowly, at least 4 days.

But the bowl should retain enough fuel to start (depending on how long it sits) as the fuel cannot siphon from the bowl back to tank, only the line as said. I have found the lead plug inserts will sometimes slowly seep.

Alan, does this mean your pump has the military-type lever for hand-priming? I may remember that you have a M38A1 pump (?).

If it's a Solex carb then it's also the explanation.

    Solex carb.
    :watch:

Fuel pump is not M38A1, but it does have the priming lever - very useful!

Yes, I use it to fill the carb after some days of inactivity. Parts are coming generally from the local Willys WWII supplier, Jeepest. If not I order from Jeep Village or in USa, Morris or others. There is a Jeepest office/shop at 23 km :JEEPEST SARL, Military Jeep Specialist: JEEP, DODGE and GMC - JEEPEST

You think so ? It could be a Solex disease?

Fuel bowl is small on the Solex, and the fuel vaporizes easily. Generally after a few days at most the fuel pump has to fill the bowl first so it's cranking time first then start. The hand lever is very handy indeed.

You are the Jeep Encyclopedia Glenn! So, thanks to the hand lever. And thanks to you, of course.

Now I'm embarassed. I just happened to remember Alan had the Solex and figured that was the issue. Plenty of guys on here have way more knowledge than I do. ;)
