These pics are old but I found them and I wanted to show some of the parallel progress in the body section. My son wants the Jeep olive drab.I sampled a corner with some rattle can (the pic is not good, it looks too dark) and I like how the satin sheen looks. Most likely I will not use cans and smear some paint with my "high end" HF HVLP gun.

Finished the mock-up and now welding it in place. There is no turning back now...

Thanks! That is a much better option than the can. Gives me consistency in color and in application layers.

Done! I will adjust accordingly once the body is on to get the right free play, but for now I'm pleased with the results.

I just started the scary task of rebuilding the rear axle. There are no signs of oil leak around the brakes. Anyways, I'm replacing all the seals and bearings all around. I have heard horror stories about removing the hubs, so I was a little worried. Keys5a was nice enough to offer the hub puller but since we are not socializing that much this days I decided to give it a go with what I had. He was option 2.
I used a regular three-jaw puller...thanks to all the members who had posted the advice of keeping the nut engaged! I hope nobody saw me jump when the hub came off! It was loud!
Fortunately it budged and I don't know if the second came off easier or I was already prepared but they are off! A BFP helped a bit.:sneak:

I only found shims on one side. Is that normal standard procedure or a bubba hit?
    Right side...

Shims on one side is ok. But I don’t think 3/4” of shim that it looks like you have is good.

I read somewhere you should have about 6 thousands end play on the axles. I will shim accordingly. Should I distribute the shimming evenly or keep it one side?

So was I! But before bothering other people and ask for favors I decided to try with what I have.

My "new" master cylinder just arrived! Let's see when I can get to the installation part. I still need to fabricate the bracket and remove the old one from the frame.

Keep an eye out for it on amazon. I got that one as an "used" one (actually an open box, not a drop of fluid in the reservoirs) for really cheap.:sneak:

Axles are out! The tool/contraption I designed and fabricated has some flaws but it got the axles out, which is what matters!

Thanks! I still have to do some improvements, but it works well. If anyone is interested I can loan it just for the price of shipping.

    More on the rear axle...
It does not look that bad, the pinion bearings are shot for sure but the axle bearings are like new as well as the seals. No oil leaks in the brakes.
