Just a reminder, make sure to put sealer on the spline before you torque it up. I put a Knovak kit in mine and the drum was leaking oil, someone here said to put sealer on the spline and problem solved. The parking brake works great now. Good Luck.

I have never found a torque spec for the D18 yoke/companion flange nuts. But I believe the nuts are the same as on a D20 and the torque spec for those is 225 to 250 ft lbs. I go for 225 on my D18's. My 150 lbs on the end of a 18" breaker bar-------

Thanks guys. I found online 100-120 ft lbs from a few sources. I originally set it at 120 before I posted here so I think I’ll try that. I don’t have any drips yet (knock on wood!) but if I do I may take it back apart and put some RTV on the splines.

If you take it back off you need to use BLACK RTV not RED. Put the RTV on the inside of the yoke splines toward the end where the washer and nut go. Hold the washer in place while you install the yoke to keep the RTV where it does the most good then torque the nut. I prefer 200-220 lbft.

I put the tcase in 4LO but I’m not sure I could get that much torque on the nut. How do you keep from spinning while torquing?

Put a large pipe wrench across the flange ears that hold the universal joint and you will get it.
