Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Drive System

    I have a 1970 Jeepster Commando with a 225 V6, Power Steering, and no smog pump, I am looking for a belt drive and bracket kit to install a Sanden (or any A/C compressor at this point) on this engine. I would like a serpentine but that does not look like any one makes that at this point so that may be out. I have a brochure that show A/C was available and the service manual list it but still cant find the parts, any help would be appreciated.

    I'll be interested in what you find out. I too would like a serpentine belt setup if possible. I have spent a lot of time on the Vintage Air website looking at options. This pdf, https://www.vintageair.com/instructions_pdf/15110-VBB.pdf has info on the brackets needed to install a/c. I think their setup moves the alternator to the driver's side and the compressor gets installed where the alternator was previously. If you don't already have them you will need to obtain 3 groove alternator and crankshaft pulleys. I was able to get them on eBay. The part numbers are on the pdf linked above. They don't specifically mention the 225, but they do reference early 231's. So I'm hopeful that the info would apply to the 225.

    Regarding compressors, the factory a/c used a York compressor, but you probably are going down the right path looking at a Sanden compressor. From what I've read they're more efficient than the York. The factory a/c looks like a basic add on air unit. Vintage Air has something similar or you can design a system with custom duct work and vents. Here is a link to the section of their website with the Builder's Series.     The original Jeepster A/C compressor was a 2 cylinder Tecumseh/York compressor that bolted to a steel plate bracket. You might be better off looking for late-'70s/early -'80s 231 Buick for both more modern compressor and improved mounts. I've seen the compressors mounted high, on either side of the engine. I think the right (pass) side would work best. I think it will be difficult to convert to a serpentine belt on a 225.
