hey guys. im getting started on my 71 cj6. settled on the turbo v6, early chevy nv4500, dana 300.

i found a guy with a later cj5 and a cj7. both with tilt steering. he is wanting to trade me the cj7 tilt for stuff, but i was just told on a cj6 forum it wouldnt work.

anyone know if it will or why not?

thanks. i am heading to aaron holdaways tomorrow to install gears in a dana 44 im getting from him.

update. the guy thinks i have a ross setup. mine was converted to saginaw. chevy box sits on the frame beside the radiator.

Welcome, takes some fab work but yah you can make the later gm tilt column work. You have to do a search. Easier in your case cause the later steering box is swapped onto front of your frame.

If you can source a dash from a 76+, it would be a much easier starting point. The column comes out of the face of the dash on them, rather than out from under them like the older ones.

What do you have for a steering column now? Everyone does these conversions differently.

mine bolts to the bottom of the dash. how hard is that dash to put in? i just went and looked and it seems to only have 4 bolts?
i can buy a new tilt setup for my jeep for $250. Standard GM 5-Position Tilt Steering Column, 30 Inch Long, Chrome
but from what yall are saying, i might have the same issue with this one and how it mounts?
he is offering the dash as well with all gauges, i just dont know how to install it. is it really just the 4 bolts?

    will the 5/7 interchange?

it also has power brakes that i am swiping. making a bracket to mount the swinging pedals. using that clutch lever and the novak hydraulic clutch slave kit. do the swinging pedals mount to the dash in anyway? or is that bracketry underneath? ive never been under an amc jeep and he lives a couple hours away.

@colojeepguy are you aaron? im driving to colorado springs tomorrow. that would just be too damn funny if this is you.
