T90 Cover-reverse Light Switch Mod

I have read many different ways to mount a reverse light switch to the shift rail on the T90 cover BUT I have not came across doing this mod to a M38 cover which has threaded end caps. Has anyone read on or done this mod to a M38 cover?. Having threaded ends would it be possible that a switch just might screw in and work?

I seriously doubt there would be enough room. Unless you could somehow mount the switch within a tube that threaded in place of the end cap. Something like a tube threaded on the inside and outside. the inside fitting the switch and the outside fitting the end cap threads. AND you had enough physical room for the switch between the mounting of it and the floor.

I used a Micro switch to then work with a pair of 18watt LED back up lights. Granted it was with a std T-90 shift cover.

Possibly a threaded reducer. It is tight for room but having reverse lights is a nice options. Your pics won't open up.

how did you solve the oil seepage problem? I like the mod.

I have done nothing on the Oil seep problem. There is no room for caps on my Transmission cover in the rear as the rods come slightly past the ends of the tubes and are the same diameter as the tubes (give or take a few thousands for clearance).

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Howard has done like I did.
Modify the housing to how the factory did it.
There should be a ton of used T90 shift towers from Pickups out there that would come factory with this mod.

WOW Howard, nice machine work!!!! Thanks for posting the pic. Having a CJ2A with NO body lift, would your mod work?

So the later years Pickups had a reverse light installed from the factory? What years would have them?

    THANKS GUYS

Can't say. I canted it over because I wasn't sure about how much room I'd have under the cover when I reassembled it all but it turned out to be lots & lots.

The machine work wasn't much, the lathe helped but there are ways around not having one. The material is easy to work with, I tapped the hole just turning the drill press pulley by hand.
