Maglite Flashlights

Anyone still use them. The lens on my 3 D-cell was scratched up and the rubber switch cover is missing. I sent them an email about purchasing those items. They emailed back that they will send them out free of charge for being a long time customer. They requested the serial number and it’s 25 years old.

 

I was about to toss mine, but then I bought LED bulbs for them.

Best upgrade ever! Blinding light, tight focus, and a set of d-cells lasts forever.

 

I have a 5 cell that I got as a promotion for selling oil in 1980 so 40 years old. Still works great.

I still use my 3-d maglite, I like the heft of it. Sometimes you have to whack it a few times to get the bulb to work. I should look into the led conversion, I bet it would make a huge difference

Just found 4 mags in the closet ....I will look into getting the led bulbs and keep them

 

Mag lites are a classic, great company too it sounds like, and US made.

The stock old tech ones are just fine for general usage. Great for leaving in your car or tool bag. People like to talk about how there are smaller and brighter lights but sometimes that really just doesnt matter. And then of course an upgraded or factory LED mag is just insane as far as both brightness and runtime goes.

A couple years ago I heard that the old guy who started the company is still showing up for work every day to keep making the product.
It's a cool story of a bit of an American institution. That said, I just don't have much reason to carry around something as big and clunky as the "D" models and I never did like the power control on the mini mags. LED bulb replacements help a ton, as do the push-button back-cap switches for the mini.
I'm liking my Sure-Fire lights.

 

For those that have converted to LED, did you just buy the eBay bulbs? What wattage for 3 battery lights? Did you have to change to a deeper/parabolic reflector, or just a bulb?
I have a couple 3D versions, and a favorite 2C size. I've always hated the standard bulb's light pattern as you adjust wide to narrow beam. There are so many distortions. I assume LED fixes this?

Just drop in the led bulb. And yes, no distortion. 200 lumens and up are amazingly powerful.

Thanks for the post. I use one nearly every night searching for "deposits" that the dog leaves in the yard. One of them had a switch go bad so I will email them and see if they can help out. I think my oldest one is almost 20 years olds now but we have four or five of various D- cell sizes. The LED upgrade is great as I did that with one of the oldest ones.
