Just a thought anyone have any ideas on adapting an oil cooler set up for the 225 v6?

    A little OT
Been thinking of a remote Canton filter (supposed to be better flow and more filtering).
Used one on my BMW and was happy with it. Initial cost is pretty high but the filter elements are not high cost, and if it provides additional protection......possibly worth it for my engine. Get some extra oil capacity (cup or so) .

Improved Racing makes a high flow adapter for remote filter and cooler.
    ENV-162 ....... has -10AN fittings

I would recommend a sandwich plate adapter with thermostatic bypass.
I don't see as much need unless you're really working the engine. The front filter gets a lot of airflow.

The PO of my CJ installed one on mine, has two oil lines feeding from the top of the oil filter that go up into the top of the grill where he installed an oil radiator. Here's a couple pics to give you an idea, and yes this is on a 225 Odd Fire. Oil cooler 1.jpg Oil cooler 2.jpg Oil cooler 3.jpg Oil cooler 4.jpg

I think the question is why.
There isn't any real need and installing one simply provides another thing to leak/rupture.

I'd be worried about leaks too...in the pictures above it doesn't look like there's any protection for the hose where it goes through the grille shell...it needs to have a grommet there. Also if it was mine, I'd get rid of the hose clamp hose ends and have a hydraulic shop build some pressure hoses.

Generally, an oil cooler is beneficial for engines that run at higher rpm. Vehicles driven at highway speeds and with low axles ratios are what come to mind. An engine turning 3,600 -4,200, or more, for extended periods would benefit from an oil cooler. Towing heavy loads for extended periods also might need a cooler. Most old Jeeps don't meet these requirements.

I have an oil temperature gauge. The oil temperature will usually be close to but lagging behind fluctuations in the water temperature. I do run a remote oil filter (avoiding the lower rad hose issue) and use the longer canister. The little bit of added capacity and external exposure likely helps but would be minor.

I do, however, have a PS cooler installed.

Late 90's 4.3 ltr Chevy Motors have one. I wonder if you could adapt it to the 225. Only need a couple of bolts to hold it on.

I could see a power steering cooler being needed if you have decent size tires and lots of steering off-road. The Dauntless seems to manage the oil situation on its own.

Same thing as far as temperatures on my CJ. I wouldn't bother

Scott those could be adapted but are notorious for leaking.
Transdapt makes a decent affordable kit. Imho the best use for these though is not for cooling but to relocate the oil filter.

Used to run a relocated filter. Always had a miserable time with leaking hoses ( didn't matter if it was swaged, Russel/ Earl's braided ,etc) I always thought the vibration was just too much. Eventually I made a bracket and attached it to front of the head and kept the lines short. Held that way for a good many years.

As to why I can't really answer that, person that posted this thread asked about oil cooler setups so I snapped a few pics for him? My jeep runs good but it already had the setup in it so as for benefits from it I would have to ask the PO that installed it all I know is it seems to run cool.
Yeah I thought the same about grommets there but he did wrap the hoses in a nice thick insulation tape and I don't really see any wear on it and as for leaks I have a couple small leaks elsewhere but have not noticed any from any place on the oil cooler setup.

I have an oil temp gauge on my 225 and my oil temp never seems to be a problem. My cooling system however, seems to be more sensitive and I had to install a fan shroud and keep the system up to par to keep it under 200 deg while wheeling. I also have a TH350 and that can get hot so I run a trans cooler. I have a dozen gauges to monitor things while wheeling because that when the stress is put on the drivetrain.
