Anyone Know How To Remove The Air Tubes Inside The Air Injection Ports On Dauntless Heads?

Thanks Rob. Appreciate the insight! I think tonight I might attempt surgically pushing them down and retrieving through the exhaust port. It will be tedious, but quicker then taking apart the entire top end I just assembled. The longest remnant of the tube is only around a half inch long, so I think it will work. I will report back.

So the surgery is complete and the patient is in recovery. The attached pics are in order by number. I used a dowel to carefully push a small shop rap into the port to protect the valve stem and help retrieve the tube. Then I used a drill bit (blunt end) to carefully drive the tube all the way through into the port. I kept my finger under the tube as I tapped on the bit to keep anything from touching the valve stem. Then when I pulled the rag out any debris and the end of the tube came with it. Carefully vacuumed out the port and air hole, then installed plugs. 2 of the tubes had a strange collar on the top end of the tube that kept them from being driven down into the chamber. For those 2, the collar had to be drilled so it would move. Took a while as every hole was a little different and had figure it out. But its all done now and it looks like the patient will be fine.

For some unknown reason, the tube ends were crimped, so they would have never come out through the top. The crimp was wider than the hole. Very bizarre!. I did have the advantage of having no front end on the jeep, which made it way easier. I thing it would be possible with fenders on, but more difficult. Mirrors would be a must for doing it with fenders on I think. Learned a hard lesson to make sure anything like this gets dealt with before assembly, but the first time through I did not know the tubes had to be removed.

Hope this helps someone down the line. Thanks to everyone who helped me on this post!

You might want to stick a magnet in the exhaust port. This will get any small metal shavings.

Thank you Steve. Yes I did run a magnet around in the port after I vacuumed it out. Appreciate the tip!

Sorry to revive this year old thread. Jeraldt, what did you use as a torque spec for the air tube plugs?. I am not finding information anywhere on these as far as torque spec.
