Glenn, you don’t know your own strength.

Airiating the fuel helps with improving the gallons per mile ratio.

If it's lying on it's side just right the divider is horizontal. :)

Ouch! thanks for the amazing visual. Sorry it happened, though.

 You're right, I knew I should have used rubber wrenches. :) Seriously though, I didn't put a whole lot of effort into it and that piece just came right off. Look at how thin the casting is.

Going back to the subject of the thread, I've determined that fuel pump is NOT rebuildable.

You'd be surprised what a little JB-WELD will do.

It's too late, I think I tossed it a few years ago. :D

Continuing the theme, if mine is a subcontracted one (has swaged valves), scoutpilot says the valves can be replaced with care. Would anyone like to offer advice on replacing the valves? I managed to remove and replace the old diaphram to test whether I can successfully replace a diaphragm, and I can. Obviously, the valves held in place by the plate are simple. Any tips on removing and replacing the swaged valves are welcome. Many thanks. (What I am finding is that vendors selling the kits seem willing to tell you that the kits is compatible with modern fuel. But they are not as revealing on the diaphragm alone. One vendor simply said fuel with ethanol shoujld not be used by people with vintage vehicles when I asked about the diaphragm, despite them saying their kit is compatible. Sheesh!)

I've replaced them, just pop the old ones out out, stick in the new ones (right way up is a BIG help) & stake a few spots in the pump body around the holes with a center punch to hold them in place.

IIRC I pried them out with a small screwdriver.

That's the best suggestion so far. Has anyone else developed a way to remove pressed in valves without damaging the pump body? (Kit is on the way so I want to be ready when it arrives.)

I think I mis-used the verb to swage. Apologies... my ignorance is showing.

I sent mine to a rebuilder in California and they did a great job. My Jeep is a 63 CJ5 with a 4 cyl. When I find the paperwork I’ll post it. I think I put it in my build thread.
