Well, the clutches in my rear tracloc dif are getting pretty loose....again.
Has anyone used one of these in the tracloc case? How did it work out?

They work the same as their other lunchbox lockers. The difference being the outer dimensions are adjusted to fit into the trac lok casing.
Definitely an upgrade from the stock TL unit but it is a locker and comes with all the baggage of one.

I've never owned anything with a true locker, do you think it will be obnoxiously harsh in a small vehicle like a CJ?

I drive with one in the rear. Other than tight low speed turns its unobtrusive. You learn to ease up through the turns and if you really get on the skinny it will push a little. You get used to it.
Added bonus I do run alot of trail in 2wd and only pull the lever for obstacles .

I've run an Aussie Lunchbox Locker in the front of a JK and in the front of my current CJ. On the JK it was noticeable because the hubs didn't unlock. On the CJ it's only noticeable when hubs are locked, but even then, really only when the wheels are cranked in a tight turn. If off power even less so. I would imagine having one in the rear would be less noticeable. You quickly get used to it.

If I was using my Jeep a lot on ice, I wouldn't run a lunchbox locker. Both tires breaking loose at the same time on ice and you may be skating away in a direction you didn't intend.

I won't run lunch box lockers on anything that will see snow and ice. I experienced way to many "uh - clean shorts needed here" moments growing up with them in NW Colorado.

Dat's why I run OX front and rear.

No snow for my CJ! You know the city of Colorado Springs has started salting the streets when it snows...

I have a Aussie lunchbox locker in the front of my jk and it’s been awesome. I’m planning to regear my TJ and will be putting a lunchbox in front of it as well. I’d add one to my CJ as well, but not sure that they make a lunchbox for the D25

I’ve been running Lock Rites front and rear in my CJ-5 since shortly after they came out, I’m guessing around 26 years give or take. I really like them except in packed snow or ice like Warloch said.
Having said that, the new axles have ARB’s in them.
There are handling quirks as mentioned above, but easy to get used also as mentioned.

Powertrax and Aussie used to for the 25 and 27 applications.

  13. I run a lunch box locker in the rear of my jeep and like it traction is great parking lots or tight turns you just need to be cautious don't stomp the throttle

I have a non-selectable Detroit in the rear of mine, similar to drive with as a lunch-box. Like others have said, you get used to it in corners. You learn to coast through the turns. Can't use the racing lines anymore, no braking early, hitting the apex and accelerating out of the corner with a locked rear.

I'm loving the spartan lunchbox for the trails. It does tear up the turf more but it's really capable in the stream beds I've been playing in.

So sorry to hear this. Get yourself a junker to drive in the winter. Don't let that nice truck of yours on the streets until snow season is over. AMHIK.

Sorry for going off topic. Please, continue ............

I don't mind a spool in the rear but the downside is the rear pushes the front around on soft terrain like mud.... most noticeable on tight turns. I had a spartan locker in the front of my D30 and I was very happy with it. It survived my lead foot and aggressive driving.

I suggest a tru trac or powr lok. Neither will give you the total torque bias as the locker but the road manners for either is head and shoulders above a locker
