Will trailer rims fit the jeep?

    These are 151 16' on a trailer, and I was wondering will they work on a stock 1958 CJ-5 with standard 4wd hubs openings? txs,

    Nope. Hub is too large on the Jeep.

    I already tried. :D

    Mine will. Hub on the Bantam is the same size.

    Bantam trailers have a different hub than do the 416s like you and I have Glenn.

    My M100 hubs fit my '69...but Sparky, you are right on...the 416s won't fit the stock cj's...KCJ

    If I read the thread correctly, the rims of a M416 1/4 ton trailer will not fit the hubs of my '74 CJ5 and vice-a-vera. So, is there a way to make my CJ5 rims fit the trailer?

    Hub on the trailer is smaller so the wheels of the CJ-5 would fit over it fine. I don't know what effect that might have though.

    Actually, it's my understanding that the rims from an M416 will not fit a CJ because of the hubs but the rims from the CJ will fit the trailer. I think the problem is with the center hole on the M416 rims being just a little bit smaller than the CJ hubs. I believe it was Boyink that was successful in boring out some M416 wheels to make them fit.

    I forgot that the other issue you might have with these rims is with the lug nuts. The CJ probably uses self centering nuts while the trailer probably has a washer and nut combination.

    Nope.

    I was successful at getting a machine shop to bore out some brand new $$tockon Wheel$ to make them fit....

    My concern is when I get my CJ/M416 conbination on the raid (hopeful by next summer) I will only have to have one spare tire for both. So, if the spare tire for the jeep fits the trailer I am in hog heaven.

    I put a trailer spare on...because these little dudes are so handy you'll find yourself pulling it with other vehicles besides the Jeep..

    I'd be cautious of doing that.

    The hub being smaller could cause issues with centering and I think Beeser's right about the washer/nut vs. self centering lug nut.

    The bantam doesn't look that great behind our station wagon either..

    But if it's the only way to go pick something up....you do what you gotta do...;)

    That was exactly my thought after purchasing a trailer. I initially wanted to replace the trailer rims with those that match the CJ but everyone here convinced me drop the idea. The 8" wide rims and tires stuck out too far past the fenders. I ended up purchasing a couple of M416 rims instead and replaced the trailer drums with a matching bolt pattern. The tires are the standard narrow military width. I plan to use CJ spare for both the trailer and CJ. The large rim/tire will look dumb and lopsided on the trailer but it should get me to a repair station OK.
